Default Long VS Short Board Cruiser

what are the differences? i'm sure there are ups and downs to both setups. What are some personal experiences and recommendations?

Not in my words, but I'd say it covers the major differences between the two:

A longboard is more or less just a longer version of a skateboard. While skate boards usually have rounded ends, and are about two feet long, longboards often have a rounded front end, and a tapering point at the back. Longboards are around four feet long. While skateboards are usually used for tricks, the larger and heavier longboard is less suitable for tricks. However, they're more efficient while riding, and one push with the foot will go much further on a longboard than a skateboard.

agility vs comfort, at least for short-longboard vs. regular longboard. actual shortboards can't turn very well at all relative to a longboard of the same size.

the only real difference is the wheels typically used on each.

well iv seen people use a shortboard/trick skateboard and put risers and big wheels, like around 74mm and use it like a cruiser. i was just wondering if there any real advantages to that. they say its better. but dont have any real reasons. i would assume you can make it turn just as well with looser trucks and not worry about wheel bite with big enough risers. i have a 46 inch cruiser and im happy with it but though of putting together a short cruiser from a board but am not sure if its worth the effort and money.

search shlong. With all the risers on a short board it would suck to push...

i put my gullwing chargers and 70mm wheels on my shortboard reg. mounted with no wheel bite. its more agile than a normal shortboard but its extremly uncomfortable and cumbersome. pushing is a bitch because of the hight and instability. and the lack of flex. its a fun board dont get me rong, but its not going to be used for cruising ever again

I put Randall 180's with 74mm 88a wheels on a shortboard, no risers. The wheels do stick out a bit past the deck. It's a lot of fun until you get to pretty high speeds and it starts getting real wobbly then. However, I can carve like mad on it, whereas the exact same setup except on a Sector 9 Bomb Hills deck was stiff as hell and very difficult to turn.

I kind of like the smaller size, just because it's more maneuverable around the city and such, though I'm dying to get a real longboard (even just the Bomb Hills) back up and running too. I'm getting some new bushings in the mail, so I'm going to put those in and see how it works with the short deck setup.

Try loosening your trucks and/or get soft bushings, that should solve your problem.

there is a university syudent in my town who rides a normal shortboard with normal shortboard trucks and 99 mm fly wheels, its ridiculous and looks so uncomfortable to push/ride.
keep looking at my sig and maybe something interesting will happen.

yea that basically what im seeing, more and more in my town. nothing as insane as 99mm, usually mid 60-mid 70mm
is it just a fad that will blow over?
