You know you're pumping when you keep speed up, but haven't touched the ground.

One could use any board he/she wanted for pumping, of course the skill needs to be there. It's way easier on a dedicated pumping setup.(so I've heard, makes sense)

    If you're pumping, you'll know.

Pumping isn't all magical. Once you find the groove and rhythm, you will notice that you aren't loosing speed. It's a little more work that just leaning toe side and hill side.

Check out Samhell's site GTCPLDP - John Galac's - Glide Turn Carve Pump Longboarding Skateboarding & www.pavedwave.org .

Oh yeah, you will know when you're pumping. It's harder on non-dedicated setups, you need more speed to start with with longer boards, but think of pushing your weight down into each pump and turn. You'll look goofy learning, but I had the biggest smile when I kept just going on and on down a path.

It's what ever you feel you do it best. I use my back foot more to be honest. I also use my waist more than anything.

A board like that is not ideal for pumping, but it will work. You can put some harder 89a-95a bushings in the rear and some softer bushings 73a-81a in the front.

BTW, you can pump any board, just some do it better. But no board is unpumpable.

Front foot, back foot, each person does it a bit different. But yeah, really any board is pump-able, just like any board is slide-able. Some are harder than the other.

buts whats the technique? like this is what i think you do. its like your carving, but with every carve you push down with your weight so it kinda pushes you outa the carve. is that it?

Pumping is really done using mostly your front foot over the front
truck.. Leverage over the front truck creates a board that is
easy to be pumped, that's why LDP decks are shaped thw way
they are, very wide area for your fornt foot over the fornt truck rear bolts..
Here's an article written by Dan Gesmer of Seismic:
    http://www.silverfishlongboarding.co...o_pdf=1&id=669
Here his video 4 wheels down, study some of the pumping he's doing..

Another thing that really helps to understand and learn pumping is to watch
slalom racers, especially tight slalom on fairly flat ground, that's where I learned
to pump was from a slalom background.. Tight Slalom racing requies exact,
precise, tight controlled quick pumps.... It all goes from there.

sometimes it helps if you can put the media player in slooooow mode. Carrasco is known in particular for throwing HARD through the turns.

this is one of my favorite vids for watching sprinting/slalom pumping. in slalom you tend to throw the arms more, reaching for each turn.

whereas cruising and long distance pumping, the arms aren't as important. in fact, you can really pump just with subtle core movements once you've picked up speed. that's also a big part of going long without wearing yourself out! throwing your arms in that case is just more to shake things up and stay fresh, or when you get hauling ass on some slight hills and want to go even faster...
