Recommend me a mini cruiser please!
Hi, I know that there are like a million threads asking for help picking a board, but I've just got into longboarding and I think I need some reassurance before picking my first longboard.
I'm at college, and the walk from my dorm to the main campus is like 15 minutes. It's largely flat, though there is maybe one small hill. I'd have to ride on the street, which is generally straight. Because cars are frequently going by, I think I need a cruiser that is easily push-able so I don't carve or pump right into one. I also need a mini because I may end up bringing it to class with me and I don't want to carry around a huge board. I would like to spend under $150. I don't plan on doing any fancy tricks with this board, so a kicktail is kind of optional.
I have been looking at the Flexdex Classic 29 because a blemished one is pretty cheap (only 120 with shipping) but I have heard they are pretty heavy and the fiberglass can splinter, which would be bad if I'm carrying it around all day.
I also have considered a Derringer 28 from Original Skateboards, though it seems that they are carving and pumping based to use on a street with traffic as well as too high off the ground to push effectively.
The Gravity Mini Classic 27 might work as well, but I would like someone to confirm that it would be okay to push with.
What do you guys think/recommend?

Mini Classic
Amazing deal right there. And yes it's a good deck. I'd look at the Bertlemann as well, it's a little larger, but a really fun ride. LB33

Re: Recommend me a mini cruiser please!
The Derringer is really not that tall - Originals are some of the lowest trucks out there, so what appears to be a very tall riser really just makes them about as tall as a Randal with a shock pad, for instance.
I wouldn't recommend the C29...I just don't like the way it sags (and is heavy). The Mini classic is a good choice, and you can also get a BL32 from Gravity for $115, set up with Darts and Burners, it wouldn't be a bad deal. I ride mine from my place to campus (about a 10 minute skate) all the time, and it works out great.
Gravity BL32 - Ace 44s/MHS Bearings/62mm 81a Bennett Alligators
Motion Bigfish VLAM2 - Gullwing Chargers/Biltins/70mm Earthwing Smokers

Re: Recommend me a mini cruiser please!
So I guess it's down between the Gravity Classic 27 and the Bertlemann 33. Is it worth going to mile high skates on the cheap? Gravity boards from the official site come with trackers and abec bearings, which I gather are very good compared to mile high's bearings and ace trucks.
Also, what kind of wheels should I get, I feel like I need something bigger than regular skateboard wheels, but the mile high boards come with either 60s or 66s.

The setups from MHS is much better than Gravitys stock setups, so no worries.
You don't want larger than 60-65mm wheels on small decks like that.

Re: Recommend me a mini cruiser please!
If i was in the market for a mini right now, I would go to tailtap.com and check out the new bennett completes on there. 165 bucks for looks to be a sick ass ride and very limited quantities.

Thanks, but I just ordered the Larry Bertlemann from MHS and that is a little more than I wanted to spend. Thanks for the advice everyone.

There is nothing wrong with the Derringer from Original at all. I've ridden it a few times, and there is no way (imo) that it rides too high to push. It's long enough to pump a bit, but is short enough where is can be used a a slow-speed ripper. It's a lot of fun, and I would have bought it if I didn't like LDP and higher-speed crusing on my Dervish as much.
So, I would strongly suggest the Derringer. Original has good boards when it comes to what you need.
