    Default Testing a gullwing setup

Hey there. I've been working with what I have lately to try and dial in the most efficient pumping setup that I can and I thought maybe someone could offer advice. I've got a 9" charger on the front of my s9 joel tudor 38", and have just recently replaced the rear charger with a mission1... no wedging and brand new stock charger bushings all around.

Does anyone have experience with the performance of the M1 as a rear truck? Am I correct in thinking that I'm better off with traditional geometry (with a further rearward position of the axle in relation to the baseplate) and lower angle in the rear truck or would it be better to stick with double chargers? I'm speaking in terms of increased pumping efficiency and the development of proper technique.

While I'd like to avoid any new purchases for a while maybe I could just pick up a tracker rts (any other good cheap rear trucks out there?) and go with tried and true. I really do like the charger up front though, it's like they respond well to the path my center of gravity naturally takes while pumping.

Thanks, it's late, it rained today and I tend to ruminate on these things if I can't figure them out for myself.

I found a decent, most likely a very newb set-up for pumping the joel tudor with gullwing chargers.

I used Randal stock red bushings for the front truck with the original riser and a pretty loose kingpin (loose enough so its flushed)

For the back, i took off the riser and used the stock charger bushing with a tight kingpin.

My friend pumped very well on my set-up when i let him try it once. Its a bit awkward because the board is slightly slanted, but i worked with what i got.

Hey, I'm in san francisco on vacation... do indys make a stable rear truck without a lot of dewedging? They're poured in the bay area and might make a good souvenir.

Chargers all around is easier to pump.."standard" with stiffer bushings grip for harder pumps

After riding with the M1 in the back for a bit I kind of got the impression that chargers all around was in fact "easier" to pump-- in the sense that you have more leverage to really put some twist into both trucks and accelerate from low speeds, or up an incline.

This idea leaves me wondering though, why do dedicated LDP setups go with the whole dewedged back truck thing? Easier to maintain higher speeds by sort of standing further back on the stable rear platform and zinging the front truck back and forth (like a higher gear in a transmission)?

I got it at the end of last summer. It's the 38" with the goofy cutout in the bottom plys. I got sick of the graphic and painted it, which I'll post a pic of later. :^D

I find it easier to learn the basics this way.. After you get the feel and it ckicjs, a stiffer/deader rear truck makes it easier to do more aggresive pumps. The rear truck will "dig" in more.

well i used an all around m1 setup for a while. i found that you to get more leverage over an conventional truck at a high angle, over a inverted truck. its due to how the bushings sit perpendicular with the deck(pointing more to the ground). you get an easier amount of lean. the reason LDPers use a dewedged back truck is so that it doesnt steer. you dont want any of your exertion going into the back truck. it okay to have them move, jut not steer. in fact you want the back to move, otherwise it wont grip. if the charger works than use it up front. if you look around bennetts wont be so expensive. i just bough a set for 27 dollars of of ebay. also look at the long haul. spending 30 buck and getting what you need it better than no getting it at all. the nice thing about LDP is that out of all the specialty longboard disaplines, it is the cheapest. you spend 50 on trucks, a bunch of khrio bushings, and a few wedges. and you put them no a smaller deck, and away you go. not like downhill where just the deck costs as much as a nice LDP setup.
