WHAT'S UP!?!

So, first off, I'm posting in this forum because my primary riding style is cruising. I have boarded all of my life (snow, wake, surf, etc..) but have never ridden the long cement sticks before (well a few times on a friend's sector9 bombing hills in WA but not consistently). I now live in AZ and want to cruise around at night, on campus and the occasional hill/garage. The other day I snagged an old, ratty Sector 9 from Play It Again Sports to see if I'm down to become an addict like all of you junkies and yes, I'm hooked.

2 things-
1: Looking for ppl to smash with around Tempe and
2: I need suggestions for a solid board.

Before you kick my ass, I did search plenty of threads. I've read enough info to fill 100 books but a personal thread is needed. I'm 6'3 155lbs and have size 12.5 feet so board width is important(i think). I'm lookin for something that is great at pushing because Arizona is flat. Super flat where I'm at. Cruising around, carving, playing, having fun and dodging pedestrians at school is the bread and butter. Not totally into hardcore, breakneck speed but I've got a regular skate deck for smallboard riding if that makes sense. I don't want something like 33" in other words, and I will do some garage riding so I'm thinking ~39" should be good right? I was lookin at a Landyachtz Drop Carve Bamboo with OTang 4pres 70mm 80a and Grizzly 8mm trucks. That a decent setup for what I'm after?

Keep in mind, anything I'm looking at is totally out of my #$$ because I don't know &I*^# about brands, wheels, decks, trucks, bearings, anything really. Just 2nd hand knowledge from reading countless threads NOT firsthand riding experience. Please help with brand, board, wheel, setup suggestions and anything else you see fit!

Just because this site has good information, doesn't mean you have to stick to the product. There are tons of companies out there. Keep your options open.

All skateboards should be treated equally unless it's a cheap Chinese knock-off. If someone tells you a board sucks, ignore them. It's up to you to justify their opinions. Same thing when someone tells you it's the best.

Use the Search Tool before you post. You will find many many many bits of great information scattered all over SF.

Just because you are now doesn't mean everyone will be nice to you. There are plenty of assholes lurking around on this forum who think all noobs are evil and need to get out of their sport, so try not to act like a noob.

If you have a simple question, try and figure it out on your own. This is where Search Tool and the Scientific Method come into play. YouTube is a great place for information.

I don't really remember my learning phase of skating, so I'm out of tips... Best of luck.

Also, notice I Search Tool is bold. Use that before you ask any question or make a post. Almost every question you will have has been answered.

The MOST important thing you need to know... If you paint it green, it goes faster...

Seabass: Thanks a ton man, both of those look pretty solid. I'm still debating on getting a drop through. Turning is huge for me since it's a cruiser but I'd love to be able to plant my front foot up against the "ledge" on a drop.

Cann0n: I've seen that Randall FAQ before, it's awesome. I've also been using the search function to death as my original post stated. I also understand why you reiterated the point as there must be a million and one "what board should I get?" posts on here. I'm just looking for opinions on my specific situation.

I'll make sure to paint some green racing stripes on my face too.

Mark: Those Clutch boards seem like bombers to me. I'm looking for something with a bit of bend in it for fun cruising. My second board will probably be stiff as hell for smashing hills. Do you have any suggestions for Clutch boards to look at that aren't as rigid? Am I wrong about stiff boards being only for DH/Garage riding? It just seems like a bendier deck would be fun to play around on and cruise campus. Thanks for the input either way!

That setup you were looking at would be pretty awsome. Drop carve is a niice board.

If you can get that complete WITHOUT Grizzly's, DO. My friend got them with his landy board, and they suck. If you want a reverse kingpin truck, go with randall or paris. And GET DECENT BUSHINGS.
