IM not sure if they still do this, but I have heard in the past that Sector9 used to go into shops for them to sell their boards but wanted exclusive rights to that paticular shop, meaning "you can sell our boards, but you cant sell anybody elses." or "we'll give you better prices on our stuff if you dont sell anything else." Now if you owned a shop near a campus and saw all the students pushing around a Sector9, what would you put in your shop?
But you are correct, you should ride whatever you like. I just think its kind of odd how EVERYBODY likes Sector9 bamboo pintails with clear griptape, there are far better pieces of lumber out there to ride.

Yeah i doubt if it happen anymore [if ever] its just something I heard, and this was like 6-7 years ago. Have you ever been to a shop that doesn't carry S9??? I'm just saying that MOST shops you go into are gonna have S9, Arbor and Loaded boards as the standard.

koa nalu in albs, NM doesn't carry S9 and any store you went to in the mall like 2 years ago had only S9 then they bought Arbor, then Arbor was in the malls.
Who cares though?! thanks for the cash mindless consumers half of them get stoked on it and eventually, learn more about the sport and move on to better boards. And just to be clear better then MALL boards. S9 has some good boards just those mall boards scare me.

Re: Gravity boards
I can sure see how Gravity's marketing seems a little weak when it's compared to a powerhouse Marketer like Loaded. Man, Loaded does a super job presenting their riders with a style and type of riding that's very unique and fun, and maybe just a tad less intimidating for dudes just starting out to emulate and learn. In that regard loaded just kills it.
But I've always got the vibe from the gang at Gravity that for them it's much less about moving huge amounts of product and much more about staying true to their roots and worldview. They've always been more of a traditional rider/trick outfit and will probably stay that way regardless of what the market trends. Also, Gravity in many minds might seems like a big outfit because they've been around forever and have had such an impact on long boarding in general, but it remains really a pretty mom and pop deal. If you look close at item 58 on this link you'll see the sum total of the Gravity factory to include the owner.

Once when I first got on Gravity as a rider I had all these (and I think good idea's) about how to overtake the "competition" and I talked them up to the owner while we were on the road to a skate spot. He listened politely and nodded his head some, but when I was finished he simply said "yeah, but you know we're pretty comfortable and having a great time were we're at..."

Re: Gravity boards
I just ordered my first gravity deck, a jp38. I've been attracted to gravity's lineup since I started skating again a few years ago, but for whatever reason (ew corchia cough cough) I haven't gotten around to riding one of their decks yet. very much looking forward to it, got some ace 44 trucks and yet to be determined wheels (whatever fits best).

So true. Growing up and still to this day many of my friends and the people around me refer to all "longboards" as "gravity boards." They have gotten to the point that they don't even know it's just a brand. The same way many people refer to all sodas as "cokes." Makes me smile a little.

Well put!!! I have been to the Gravity shop before, talked to Kevin, met Brad and Sergio, talked with Jesse at one slidefest. All very nice and down to earth guys in my opinion. I do however wish they would make a new full length video. Its pretty hard to not get some sort of stoke when you see Brad skate!!!
