The Loaded Challenge Thread
righty tighty, the Loaded Challenge is upon us, and i figure we need us a place to discuss tricks and share ideas!
first up: nose manual three parking stalls!!
i'm excited for this one. i was getting a bit worried after the nose manual hint that was given out, that they might actually mean a g-turn. that's not to say it won't still come up, but personally, i consider a g-turn a hell of alot harder than a nose manual!
as for me, i've totally got this one in the bag, and that makes me a happy camper. i can consistantly nose manual two parking stalls, so the step up to three should be okie dokie.
the hint for next week......"think flip"......so i'm thinking oldschool kickflip. unless they've come up with something silly...
DISCUSS!

Re: The Loaded Challenge Thread
isnt the first supposed to be the most skill demanding?

Re: The Loaded Challenge Thread
I believe it is recomended you NM for five spaces before attempting to learn g-turns.
I too had the same concern. However, they said that the hardest trick would be first, so I don't
thing the g-turn will make an appearance this year.
I would expect most of their previous trick-tips videos to make and appearance though.
So...practice your cross-steps and woodchopping.

Re: The Loaded Challenge Thread
yeah i heard the same thing about g-turns. it was either three or five spaces.
now that i can do two stalls every time, i can definately see the change in my g-turn attempts. it's getting much easier to balance the nose manual while turning, but she's still a slippery fish to grab.
i'm also quite curious as to what the other challenges will be, saying as how this is the hardest. i'm not complaining, or even tooting my own horn here......but isn't this a pretty easy "hard" challenge? i mean is the last challenge going to be bombing a hill at walking speed? or footbraking?
again, i'm not griping, i love these challenges and the ideas behind them, and i can't wait for more!

Re: The Loaded Challenge Thread
I feel kinda bad that I'm probably gonna be doing this challenge and the underflip on a short board...I want to keep my LBL pretty haha
Oh well, they said you can use ANY board you want...
I think Loaded is going to be giving away lots of half price boards this spring, but you know what? That's awesome! Sure they won't make as much money on them (if any haha), but they are still a young company in a young sport, so they are going to get REAL skaters riding longboards all over the place, and they'll be doing it on Loaded boards.
Props to Loaded (and the Adams for the idea of course) for making this innovative challenge, and not making it impossible for the average person to attain!

Re: The Loaded Challenge Thread
you know.....if you land an underflip on a board and break it you could totally rack up some extra style points...

You didn't seem to think it was extra stylish when I did an underflip on your first 50" and snapped it...

Manuals are great, because they're hard, but you just Get Better at them if you practice. Not much else to it.

Re: The Loaded Challenge Thread
if my board doesnt have a tail can i just ride it backwards & use the tail as a nose? :P
-
Re: The Loaded Challenge Thread
I just spent some time learning it and can nose manual for about 1 parking space. Haha I won't be winning any style points but I should be able to do it in time.
Oh and yeah...my thought was the old school kickflip too

Re: The Loaded Challenge Thread
I'm more worried about the flip trick. The manual seems both fun and challenging. I can't wait till I get to try them.

you don't actually need a "nose" to do a nose manual. watch some of the videos on www.whoisadamcolton.com to see some proof...

Re: The Loaded Challenge Thread
I just did a little basement carpet balance on a shortboard as a study break (stupid midterms...) and one thing to use as a tip: bend your knees and get low!!!!
I know Adam S does his standing straight up like the lanky tall robot he is, because he definitely is a robot the way he can manual a vangaurd that far while standing straight up...but do yourselves a favour and get low! I'm almost 1/3 the way to a drop-knee position in my nose manuals and I find my balance time increases by a factor of 4! Seriously, lower centre of gravity makes a HUGE difference...
As for the underflip (if that indeed is the next challenge)...you only need to get one on film so don't worry yourselves about it

Re: The Loaded Challenge Thread
I'm super excited on this whole loaded challenge deal.. It's a great idea to get people doing lots of moves they otherwise wouldn't attempt to learn.
A couple nights ago (after the nosemanual hint) me and my buddy went out and just practiced manuals in a sloped parking lot.. I got regular manuals down and I'm still working on the nosem's. It seems that these challenges are going to be very doable (with some practice) for almost anybody. Good stuff, loaded.. good stuff.
I do feel kind of bad doing this on my oldschool deck rather than my vanguard though... haha
