Re: newbie girl needs help picking first longboard
hey whats up my name is kaitlyn i just started longboarding last year after a back injury and i was looking for my first longboard and i found the perfect board for me and i have a couple suggestions for you, i have a loaded pintail flex 3 and i'm about 5"3' 100 pounds and i love it you should check out their website loadedlongboards.com the pintail is only about 34" long its the perfect the thing with loaded boards is they have all different flexes witch is great and it goes by weight and great for caving i think you would really enjoy it. also the arbor fish its 38" with a 271/2" wheel base its a stiffer board but it has give, many people enjoy the fish you can check those out online too. where are you from?and i hope i could help and hope you find what your looking for! i work at a skateshop so if you have questions just ask!

Check out www.gravityboard.com
Something like a minicarve complete with trackers, soft wheels, and the Gravity bearings are quiet and fast.

You can also stop by carving really hard, depending on how steep the hill is. If it's pretty steep you might just keep the same speed, because with something carvy like revenges you don't wanna get going to fast.

Re: newbie girl needs help picking first longboard
Many people suggest a board with a kicktail, I think thats not the best idea. You have never skated before(skateboarding ala tony hawk short board stuff) so you prolly wont miss a kicktail anyways.
The Superglider Mark suggested seems like an awesome choice and he knows how to set up a board for the ultimate ride, but if you want something that looks a bit more surfy I'd look into the Fibreflex pintail and the Loaded Pin and the Vanguard.
Wheels, girls with pink wheels are a total turn on so I would get those if I were you :P And the Pink Seven O's, and Powerballs are also awesome performing wheels.
I hate signatures, so i turned them off

Re: newbie girl needs help picking first longboard
I'd stay away from Pintails. They can get wheel bite and really send a newbie for a tumble. Also, the Revenge trucks aren't the best for a newb either. Try something more standard like a Tracker or Indy with soft bushings. You'll be much happier in the long run, and have better gear under your feet for when you get better. Also, stay away from stuff made in China. (bamboo, revenge, etc...) It'll make you feel better about your gear and where your dollars go.

What????? Every board should have a kicktail. If for no other reason than you don't have to bend so far over to pick it up. Just SNAP that board up into your hand!

You can do the same with a pintail
I think pintails are great for newbs because many pintails have cutouts for the wheels like a fibreflex, lush kilima and so on.
Ofcourse you could also get a board with a kick, but there are way too many kicktails that are completely useless like the one on my cosmic 2.
Another option would be to get a board off the Gravity green feet mistake deal(do a search for green feet mistake) if there are any boards left. The GS should be a fun board and so should the minicarve
I hate signatures, so i turned them off

"You'll be the envy of all the campus longboard guys on their Sector 9s."
As if sector nine and arbor aren't the same boards. Arbor is even distributed by S9. The only difference is the koa veneer.

if it's not too late, don't go with venges. they're really squirly and high. which can be difficult on a beginner who doesn't quite have their balance yet.

Re: newbie girl needs help picking first longboard
well here is what i did
i got a pintail crown board off ebay for $50 complete including shipping
then what ya gotta do is lossen the trucks take off the wheels, clean and lubricate the bearings.(they are abec 7s by the way). for campus skating they are perfect because they come with very soft wheels wich make it confortable fist board and you can get over all the cracks in the sidewalk. they come with risers and cut out wheel wells and i have never expierienced wheel bite. that was my first board and it was perfect!
i forgot: make sure when you put the wheels back on just barely have the end of the nut over, that locks it and you have them very loose with no restrictions.

Re: newbie girl needs help picking first longboard
just a suggestion: check out the CW buyers guide, see what you like...check the funds and then go hunting...pintails are great, but kicktails are handy for commuters...revenge or R2 180's should be suited, but don't forget to check out force C7's...as for wheels...zigs, grippins or hawgs will be big enough to roll over stuff, feel smooth and grippy enough for commuting...apart from that, find local 'fishers and try their boards, you may find something you like there...
oh, and ignore paipo and hky, they are obviously keyboard warrior/complete moron's...
welcome comrade to the 'fish.

One aspect that people don't tend to mention about the Revenges is how stable they are if you have the confidence. There's almost no dead spot, so they don't feel tippy at all. Great trucks for sure.
I have some Zigs and they're my favorite wheels for carving/cruising. Great acceleration, great grip. GOOD GOD JUST DON'T SLIDE THEM!
My votes are with the following:
Loaded Pintail
Fibreflex 38" Pin
Fibreflex 42" Cutaway
best of luck, great to see some more chicks out on boards!
what is it about the zigs that make them so bad for sliding? i have a loaded pin with zigs and im learning to slide stop on that.

Zigs are made to grip as much as possible. They have a much larger contact patch than most wheels (ie really wide), making them harder to release and harder to slide smoothly.
They also supposedly chunk pretty easily, which sliding would encourage.
