Picking a new campus board.
So after nine years my old childhood Sector9 is finally hitting the end of its rope, and I'm looking for a new campus/cruiser board. This will be my first time to throw money down for a real nice set, and after some input from friends I've narrowed my choices down to two that look promising.
(links included)
The Landyachtz Drop Wedge looks nice for the campus environment. And the Lush Kilima came highly recommended by my sister and a few of her friends, who are all big lush fans.
My old board is a monster pintail: just topping 56 inches long, and with 74mm wheels it needed almost a full inch lift just to avoid wheelbite since I had to loosen my trucks so much for campus. It made for a really comfortable cruise but was terrible for dodging pedestrians and carving in tight areas. What I want now is something that's good for campus life, but comfy for rolling around town. The capacity to handle some casual downhill never hurt either. Thanks in advance for any input.

Re: Picking a new campus board.
I'd say go with the drop wedge
Its shorter, looks sleeker, and landyachtz is a quality company
I'm not bashing lush, I just havent had any experience with their boards

IME anything under 40" works well for ped slalom. Go for the landy

dude, check out the Loaded Pintail. i can't imagine myself with ped slalom on anything better than a pinny. easily pumpable, and turns really quick and tight with the 150s

Re: Picking a new campus board.
Set up correctly, something like the 77 alva reissue would probably serve you very well. It's not huge, so you can carry it to class. Smaller wheelbases mean tighter turning radii, and the kicktail is quite nice for ollieing up curbs. Look into it.

Re: Picking a new campus board.
Gravity 32 Buttons, or a Powell Classic 27 with some 63 tunnel rocks 82a.
I have both, but I like the Powell better. It's smaller, and has a tighter turning radius!

either that or the gravity mini classic. My friend just got one about two weeks ago, and it is really fun, the width is very comfortable, and everything on it is beautifully functional, plus its cute not some huge monster thing, definitely good for crowd slaloms on busy days.
either way, have fun at college

well i don't know about great quality, but it's definitely worth the cash!
it's not on the kracked skulls website, but if you shoot william an email he'll make you a 38" Scimitar. 46" would be a bit on the big side, but the 38" could be juuuuust right. it's a little bit more expensive than the M1, but much better in my opinion 8)

Re: Picking a new campus board.
I hate to push KS any more than i already do not really but i feel stupid saying the same thing. but i love mine and do get the scimitar it's worth it i love mine i have a 46 and it rides like a 38 i would say with the size you know what you want just remeber with shorter deck better truning radius less stabil and vise versa. But maybe a humu i hear for the size real stable but i've only heard good things about it. and the adams did like 35ish on it so the board can handle it(I'm not say i would go that fast on it) but you will be the limiting factor on the hills thing not that longer boards aren't more stabil. Balence is learned and turning radius is a set thing once you get it, it doesn't change. I love the KS sorry to ramble but if you have any question ill try to help just pm me or anyone else can to glad to help. Hope this does.

Seconded for Gravity Buttons.
Very good board for me, it is my campus board. I have mine on Randal 150's and 76mm FuChus. Good for transport, carves nicely, and the wheelbase is good for some moderate hills.

Re: Picking a new campus board.
Thanks for all the input, it's been really helpful. I think at this point I've tossed the kilima idea, but I'm still a little hung on the drop wedge, so I'll probably go for that.
On a seperate note, I'm really eyeing the Kracked Skulls board as well. The great thing is that the maker lives just a few miles south of where I am, so it's nice to know the board is tested on terrain that's almost identical to what I'll be riding. Given the low price and the constant reccomendation I think I may just pick up one along side the drop wedge.
Anyway, for the landy board, what would be recommended for a trucks/wheels setup? Whoever designed the walkways at my campus had no concept of boarding so the sidewalk gaps and enormous cobblestones are hellish. I'm thinking very big, very soft wheels, but that's about as much acquaintance as I have with gear.

Re: Picking a new campus board.
a board with a bit of flex to it will really help smooth out the ride along with the big wheels.
and those who danced were seen as crazy by those who could not hear the music.

Re: Picking a new campus board.
seems to me like the landy and the KS are gonna give you a pretty similar ride, both drop-thru, probably a similar wb. Only major difference is the profile of the board (KS has camber, landy has a wedge nose)
i'd definitely go w/ something smaller if you're gonna get 2 boards. 36" or smaller if its got a kick and under 32" or so if not.
this kinda of board is not only more nimble underfoot but also lighter in the hands/ easier to stash
