We did that hill 8-10 times during the night, so with everywhere else we went that's at least 10km of skating and 10km of walking.

One of the guys hadn't really longboarded before (used to skateboard a bit, good enough to kickflip and actually ride the board), so the first few times down the hill scared him a bit. But he loved it after that and by the end he was carving the whole thing. He started off skeptical and by the end of the night he was enjoying it a ton.
That sounds amazing. The only hills around here are about 100-200 m long and super steep

anybody go cruising for 10 miles plus?

I love longer cruises, usually means public transport on the way back but thats always good fun?

If you do go for those distances, on your own or with people?

I had a really nice mellow cruise the other week down my valley twas 15/17 miles, had to walk some, it rained, at first just showers then i ended up carving in the rain with the water spinning off the wheels, as much as for the sake of my bearings i hate the rain i do love the feeling of riding on it. Anyways the sense of achievement afterwards not really hitting any impressive top speeds just in it for the ride.
Why walk when you can skate?

    Hey guys,
so i figured id rather write about my day in this thread rather than start a whole new thread about it cause theyre all over the place.
anyway...today has been the day i have been waiting for for about a week and a half. my local skate shop just recieved their shipment of longboards. they had been low on stock until today so i had not been able to pick up my first board. i am new to the whole longboarding scene and have been hooked on it ever since i saw some friends riding one around the school parking lot. yesterday i was at work and all i could think about was going to the store, droppin some dough, and gettin on a board. today my dream came true. i went to the board store, picked up a board, wheels, trucks, the whole shebang. right when i got home i got on the board and rode it up and down the driveway for about 2 hours. i was cruisin. it felt so good just to be out there hanging out, glidin along like im on cloud nine. im hooked. all ive thought about all day is ridin my board, when im going to get a chance to ride it, where..etc. on the way home from a friends house i was scoping out places to cruise. i love it. im hooked on something after 2 hours of riding. i just cant stop. im so stoked to step on that board tomorrow that im up right now at 1 am local time thinking about ridin. i cannot wait until i am comfortable enough to ride down a hill. i had some second thoughts about my board when my trucks were somewhat wobbly but i ended up tightening them and now theyre fine. i had some questions but ill save them because this is supposed to be about how much im in love with this lifestyle. me and one of my buddies have been wanting to longboard since june 1 and the day is finally here. im psyched. well thats my story... kinda jumbled. thanks for reading...

Myself, i just got into longboardin just bout a month ago after a buddy got one of his own. ive been hooked ever since man. i spend everyday sittin at work just thinkin bout where i can go skate once i get off work. even at my lunch break i just go skate around the top of the parking structure since its smooth as hell and there's no security cameras laying about. and yesterday i found the best run ive skated on. it starts off on this steep hill on a small side street that winds a lil and has some small hills to slow down on. it was effin awesome man, i was probably there for bout 2 hrs just tryin different lines and carving,

    absolutely horrid...
i had no idea that switching out wheels could make a board all but unpumpable

don't pump dregs wheels! it won't work!
yes, an uber-grippy, square-lipped slalom wheel IS the best for sliding

I was trying switch and switching all day and making people think I really SUCK for half the time. And I just went out for an hour trying shuvvits. Question: Can a board ever to be too raised to do a shuvvit on? Cause I keep trying and I get so close but my front foot just slips under the board.

Amazing skating. A cruise planned for 1-2 hours turned into 2 days of skating. We met up with the boys from Ongoza (www.ongozafilm.com) randomly here in Kelowna. We skated the garage with them until close to 2AM on friday, had a crew of 10 people riding the elevator and bombing. It was 3 separate groups who randomly met and sessioned the garage at once. Made lots of new friends. The second we pulled up to the garage the security drove in. So Craig (from Ongoza) was just like "Hey, you mind if we ride our skateboards in there?" "Nah, go ahead." Sweeeeeeeeeet!!!!!

Then today we just cruised on the big boards with those guys for a while, had a nice bbq, then some of the guys showed us an amazing, steep hill that is brand new paved and no development has started. So that means there will be no cars ever yet, no construction yet, no houses yet. And the curbs are slanted instead of the 90 degrees of death construction. Daniel (Ongoza) brought out the full leathers and bombed the thing after a few runs, hit close to 80km/h. It was insane.

One of our new buds Mark busted his precious board at the garage last night doing one too many boneless 180's. He was very sad. So to make him the happiest person ever, the guys at Ongoza presented him with a Kebbek Hairpin deck to replace his snapped Lush. Awesome, awesome, awesome.

These past couple days are what skating and longboarding are about. Meeting random people on wooden platforms of death and speed, and having amazing times together.

yesterday i was minding my own business and just cruising my way home when i started being harassed by some preps walking around wit their ladies (it seems they grow a pair when there's girls around). So i did the logical thing to do, i pulled down my pants and boxers and gave them a fierce mooning... i'm sure the guys were aggro'ed but i reckon they ladies enjoyed it.

got my mhs package yesterday, so i was twitching with anticipation until i got all the parts and pieces put on my boards...among these parts was a set of EW superballs in slide formula...weeehee! i can pull toeside 180's going down the road on those!

so after testing them out on the road, i went to a church parking lot and slid til i could literally almost not stand anymore (also got to try out my new kneepads a few times)
i still can't get colemans (i'm not putting enough weight on my had or getting proper rotation), but i can do heelside 180's now

m60feral that's awesome, best response to idiots who won't get an intelligent response is to one up them and leave.

And bucksaw I told you those superballs are amazing wheels, aren't they? They slide so smooth. For colemans you'll want more speed when you learn them to help with them kicking out. Just get down low into the crouch, and keep your front hand just above the road. Slowly lower it until it's skimming the ground, then drop your back leg/knee all the way onto the deck. At this point you'll be all the way down and leaning on your hand, and the board should have slid out automatically (without having to kick). You've probably heard all the technique advice already so don't know if that'll help, but just keep trying and after you get the board to kick out a few times you'll have it. And when you try a few of your toeside slides down a bit of a hill, it'll pendy automatically and you'll be stoked!

It was wonderful. Late night neighborhood hill bombing on my CLB. Silent except for the woosh of my wheels, no cars, wind rushing by... ahhhh.

So, I didn't have a ride today, because yesterday I proved my idiocy and inability to notice dangers in front of me. I was on a 3ish mile ride to my grandma's, and I was right about to pass a person that was walking, no big deal, but I was focusing ahead, and didn't notice that a root from a tree had dislodged a square of sidewalk at least 3 inches up... so, obviously that didn't go to well. Gumballs... amazing wheels they are, aren't designed for that kinda step... hehe. Anyways, needless to say, I went flying. I remember thinking, "What the heck just happened" then i hit the ground. I had my slide gloves on, so my hands were fine, nice big scrape on my elbow, and a wonderfully deep bruise on my thigh thats been making me limp everywhere I go. So, I will hopefully be back out tomorrow if my legs ok, but we shall see. Anyways, um... pay attention... thats the moral.

haha that sicls garciawork. i got random tree roots that pop out around my grandmas too. but wat can u do? anyways me and my buddy went cruising last nite down some hills....sooo effin fun man. we where there for 2 hrs just carvin the shite out of these two hills. and goin down one of the runs we noticed these two hot chicks, they were smokin man. so we were hopin to impress em with our boards lol. anyways it was a narrow street and they were walkin halfway in the middle of it so i was makin my approach to carve around em and this car comes around the corner so i end up brushin by em by like a few inches to miss the car...they had some nice perfume on haha. after me and my buddy hit up this small underground lot and the surface was like glass man. it was sooooo smooth it was ridiculously. so we just practiced some nose-manuals, cross-steppin, look-backs, etc. for about another hour. such a great nite man...til my mom and i got into argument. that was a great way to put a damper on things.

I don't know if this happens to anyone else, but during my ride today (and my rides on most days) at least one dog will actually lunge at me. I haven't been bitten, but it is kind of awkward when some random dog comes up to me barking like mad while I'm riding at 20 mph.

And what's worse, dog owners don't even seem to care. I'll occasionally get a 'sorry' or what not, but not usually.

But it's all good 'cause eventually some hot chick's dog will run up to me, and then it's fake fall (yeah.... fake), followed by me playin' the sympathy card. Hopefully followed by a phone number.

    Can't wait....

Yeah, there's this one street i avoid now, cuz this friggin dog runs out of his yard and tries to bite me, then it runs into a random yard, and at the same time i have to ring the doorbell to get the owner to catch the dog... yeah i just avoid that street.
