Default How was your daily longboarding ride/s?

So I went out and rode my vanguard about 3 miles, just a trip, was dancing a bit, enjoying my mp3, impressing the old retired people with my cross stepping (haha). When On the way home, all dripping in sweat (I skated as fast as I could and was wearing too much clothes) I dance a bit, and while walking the plank I hear this squish sound. I stop and look. I ran into a big fresh pile of ####. So not only have I got poo on my wheels, my deck, my legs I even got some poo on one of the bearings (big pile of poo) nothing serious though. So thats that, I walk in, write this and gonna watch the simpson marathon (6 hours of simpson on tv). Tell me about your daily ride, or any funny thing that happened while on board recently!

Have a good day, not covered in poo I hope!

I just went out a while ago, back to the scene of the crime where I was booted out by a cop a few weeks ago...I figured, what the hell, no one's gonna tell me where I can or can't skate. Rode for about an hour, the climate here is so humid right now that I came back soaked looking like I just came back from a wet-tshirt contest. I'll post pix later, haha.

I do have a bit of a creepy story about the last time I rode the circle down the t-head, it's an extension from the seawall I like to cruise. So there I was down there having a bit of a blast cross stepping and carving away, when all of a sudden a city worker pulled into the circle with his truck. I guess he was checking on the water sprinklers or some junk like that, I didnt really pay him much mind. I decided to give the coffin carves a try, and I was getting them down pretty easy. Coming to a turn I was jamming away with my mp3 so I couldn't hear a thing, and here I come into the turn doing a coffin carve as I look up to see the truck backing up and heading straight for me. Seeing as how I was down near the ground and stiff as a board I can only think he never saw me. I quickly jumped up, grabbed my board and ran away as he continued to back up. Dodged that bullet just barely, the dude woulda cut off my head if I didnt see him when i did.

Moral of that story: The coffin carve almost landed me in a coffin, how I love it so!
Keep away from city workers riding trucks in your skating spot, you just may lose your head!!

I just woke up 10 minutes ago because I was up until 3am carving hills with some buddies. The hill is really mellow but super amazing pavement, about 1km long and constant speed of 30-40km/h. Just feels all nice and snowboard like carving it the entire way, and it's well lit. We did that hill 8-10 times during the night, so with everywhere else we went that's at least 10km of skating and 10km of walking.

One of the guys hadn't really longboarded before (used to skateboard a bit, good enough to kickflip and actually ride the board), so the first few times down the hill scared him a bit. But he loved it after that and by the end he was carving the whole thing. He started off skeptical and by the end of the night he was enjoying it a ton.

I rolled my ankle recently so I decided to take it easy so I just spent an hour or so cruising around practicing my boardwalking. In a week of longboarding I've gotten crosstepping, walk the plank, and the lookback down pretty well. Next up....nosemanuals and shove-its.

my friend found a long, newly paved orchard road outside of town that no one really knows about. it's about 1 mile long, varying in steepness and you can hit about 35mph on it. it's poorly lit so you can only do it until late-dusk but parking one car at the bottom and one at the top eliminates any walking.

it's a very fun experience. the road is so smooth that it feels like... idk something really smooth haha.

Today was one of those days where nothing seems quite right. I thought I had recovered from killing my left ankle after practicing nose manuals but after the first push it started to ache again. I got bored of the parking lot and decided to ride a "hill" which probably registered a one on the hill-o-meter but it was still something! After a week of going around in circles in a parking lot and up and down my street i'm ready to try something new.

    Raining?

    In Seattle?

When did this start? Why haven't we heard about it?

I spent 2-3 hours doing a pink/blue grip tape job on my friend's Kracked Skulls this afternoon/evening. It's soooo bright, but as soon as the pink parts get a bit dirty it'll be nice. Then after that we had to ride of course, so we hit the mellow hill right by his house (the 1km long, 30-40km/h) to test out the grip and to reward myself for using an exacto knife for so long.

On the last run, about halfway down a van pulled out of a driveway and started trailing me. So I just got down into a tuck because I figure the faster I go the less I delay the person and the less likely they'll be mad. The van was keeping nice and far behind me every time I glanced back, so as soon as I had the room I pulled into the opposite lane and waved him to pass. Instead he pulled up beside me and yelled "39km/h" at me haha. Yeah it's slow (and it felt very slow), but I was just so stoked that the guy behind me decided to clock me and yell my speed out. People around here tend to be very kind to longboarders, it's great.

Yeah there's always those, but there's a lot more smiles. People 45+ tend to be very interested. On the way walking up the hill a couple around 55ish who were on an evening walk were laughing with us asking if they could watch us on the way down.

Seems like people around this area really tend to separate skateboarders from longboarders. I also find that if you're wearing gear they tend to think of "just some kids having fun" rather than skater punks. I was carrying a helmet and slide gloves with me on the way up the hill. But on big dancer boards everyone always asks "why so long?" and "but those aren't made for tricks, are they?"....only to receive an introduction to boardwalking hehe

that's how a lot of folks are here. older people seem to like the idea of people using boards as transportation rather than messing handrails up (for example). most cars wont mind being behind you as long as you wave them past and people often yield at intersections.

when i bike around town, it seems like people support me. if i do a stoppie at an intersection or bunny hop off a small ledge or stair set, i sometimes get cheers from younger kids/whistles from adults. part of the small town vibe i guess. it's really neat.

you broke 1,000 posts, you whore!

i'll second this sweet vibe we get the majority of the time here in kelowna. 8 out of 10 people seem to be stoked or don't mind the fact that we ride longboards. 1 out of 10 just don't know what's going on, and the other 1 out of 10 don't like it because they're ####### pillowbiters!

I do enjoy getting the comments we get while riding the five footers downtown though. "oh, but you can't do tricks on them, right?", I love that one, because it's like someone saying to me "oh, you can't show off for me, can you?"
Me and Lee are like a freakin' longboard promotion team here. I don't usually like stopping my ride to talk to people (unless they're hot), so Lee handles the questions and I provide the demonstrations most of the time. I would actually love to know how many minds we've changed, people we've educated, and hobbies we've influenced in the past year...it'd be super cool...

My ride 2 days ago consisted of getting up early and meeting a guy from the loaded forums and teaching him to slide. Spent about an hour near my friends house that has a very very harmless hill where I learned and taught him in about a half an hour. Then I hoped off my Vanguard and onto his Dervish and took it around the neighborhood and almost died, carved really hard and hit a reeeaaally rough patch of pavement resulting in the gumballs losing all traction and me almost faceplanting into a curb... luckily I wasn't going to fast and caught myself. Twas quite fun!

Do you notice the Dervish sliding out easier than the Vanguard? How about the lower platform making it easier to bottom out?

Well, I was sliding with different duros, 88a gummies on my vanguard, and 78a gummies on the Dervish, and both felt great, I'm fairly new to sliding, I just happened to have the Coleman down well so... yeah. Im 170ish and it was wonderful, no bottoming out. It would have maybe if I pushed from the very center of the board, but I didn't so it was fine. It made me consider selling my Vanny actually... it felt like it was on rails, and being lower was just all around wonderful!

Well, about the bottoming out, I actually don't think I could have bottomed it out without deliberately trying to, and yeah sorry bout the sliding info, I think it felt a little better, but those are the only two boards I know how to on so I'm not a good judge... hope that helped
