Drop Through or Top Mount
So me and my friend are having a heated debate about how to make our next board, which is a downhill carving board. I think the top mount is better personally, but he thinks that a drop through would be more fitting, so we decided to ask you what would be better

Sheesh, people are just so eager to jump down eachothers throats.

Re: Drop Through or Top Mount
depends, if its primary mission is carving, a topmount is tasty for its surfy feel, but for a bomber, dropthru is great, and they still carve nicely. i recently built my first dedicated carve board, top mount with holeys and avalons. absolute treat to ride!

Chill out... All I said was different people have their own preferences. How exactly did I insult him by saying that?

Didn't mean to come off harsh, my bad.
You didn't insult him, but you didn't give anything constructive to this thread either, aside from "Preference". Lots of people are arrogant jackasses on this forum, and when I read it it just came off as a arrogant comment. My bad, haha.

Re: Drop Through or Top Mount
drop-through beacuse its a downhill carver....i like stability....if its set-up right it should carve well.
how is the Flex?

Re: Drop Through or Top Mount
hi folks,
I have two longboards one of it being rather from commute and fun (loaded dervish), the other for downhill freeride/carve (landy drop wedge). the loaded is a nice and smooth board but the flex is sometimes too much. so for the purpose of downhill carve I´d choose a drop-thru, without any flex and a good concave. you feel locked-in on such a board and it has a huge amount of stability when it comes to get fast...
so: drop and concave.

Re: Drop Through or Top Mount
Since you are making them yourself you should just make a top mount and a drop through. Same mold just different routing pattern. Then everyone can determine which one they like better. Everyone's tastes are different.

Re: Drop Through or Top Mount
depends how fast you plan on going, and also is you what more grip or slide for your carves. i guess if its straight up carving id go for a top mount, but if want to go a bit faster and throw in some speed checks/ slides and what not a drop thgorugh would be a bit easier. both with some decent concave and maybe camber.

Re: Drop Through or Top Mount
Personally, I think someone should start out on a dropped board. That way they can have a more stable ride to learn how to go fast. Once they hone their skills they should get a topmount in order to full maximize said skills. That's just me though.
Just make one of each.

Re: Drop Through or Top Mount
I started out on a drop deck (evo), but now I prefer a topmount.

Re: Drop Through or Top Mount
I prefer boards with drop through. But I'm a bit of a noob. They feel alot more stable, and I'm alot more relexed knowing that the ground isn't far away if I need to footbrake. On topmount boards I have to reach way down to push or footbrake (inconvenient). Topmounts are also a pain to slide.

Re: Drop Through or Top Mount
I wonder if you could make one board that could be run either way? Can't you topmount a Dervish if you want?
-
Re: Drop Through or Top Mount
Yes you can topmount a dropthrough. I ran my dervish topmounted for a while I just didnt like the height as much.

Re: Drop Through or Top Mount
for the last year ive been riding dropthrus and or dropdecks iv recently moved to using a topmount and i have to say im liking it! i feel like i have alot more control and actually feel just as stable as on a drop board.
Blue stickers are only given to the select few people to suck adam coltons balls, and do it skillfully enough to give him blue balls. Thus resulting in the giving of the rare Blue Loaded Sticker.

Re: Drop Through or Top Mount
Personally i would like to drop through my deck because its lower to the ground therefore more stability and control.
