    Default Flexdex Fat Daddy Setup

I just bought myself a Flexdex Fat Daddy deck, and now I need to buy the trucks and wheels. What would be good trucks and wheels?

And I really dont want to get wheel bite and I am going to be using this board to commute a bit and to dance on and all that good stuff that it is used for haha

flexdex puts Randal 180s and 66mm wheels on their completes, so that's a starting point. There's several nice 66mm wheels. I just picked up some white Gravity Burners, and I've a set of Superballs for a while. I'd recommend them both.

set mine up with revenge trucks and otang 75 mm 80a front 83a rear
if you stand on the nose and flex it very hard at max turn it will make tiny marks on bottem of the board. not anything that would be called bite or throw you.

    very stable at speeds.
for me to attempt to dance it I have to tighten the trucks up enough that the board has memory.

also worked well with 70 mm 80a
liked the lower feel of the board pumped well. ,
prefer it with no memory and a bit tippy

something that had lower trucks and 65 mm would bring the belly closer to the ground on max flexes

    suprisingly easy to pump

    max speed pushing 16 mph
    max pumping 12.4
    easy pumping 6-10+

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread ... the Fat Daddy will be my next board.

I was thinking randal R*II 50/50 's with something soft and sticky.

Thumbs up Re: Flexdex Fat Daddy Setup

Can anyone tell me the wheelbase on the Fat Daddy?

And while your at it tell me where your measuring the wheelbase from inner holes or axels?

I`ve got an old homemade 70" that is in need of replacing and the Fat Daddy seems like a good option if it has enough wheelbase....

Web site says 41.5 " but doesn't specify holes or axles.

Originals or revenges would be pretty sweet. Or some Carver C7's.

That unfortunately will not work, I tried that exact same thing on my fat daddy for the exact same reasons and it wheel bit like CRAZY. I literally only made it 10-15 feet before it wheel bit and threw me off the front, the trucks are just too turny and even the big spacers they send with the trucks aren't even close to tall enough.

I threw a set of Gullwing Chargers I had laying around on the board with a 1/2" spacer and it just barely doesn't wheel bite hard enough to throw me off, but the lips of the wheels do leave tiny marks right behind the wheel wells. That seems to be one of the problems with the Fat Daddy, the wheel wells are too far forward, so my next set of trucks for it will be Indy 215's because they have the axle farther forward which will hopefully send the wheel properly into the cutouts for more turning and less wheel bite.

Thanks for that MKG, I did look but you must have better eyes than me! I couldn`t find the specs on it anywhere on the site.

41.5" on the inner holes, I just measured mine. I've posted before thinking it was 44" but your post made me do a double-take.. thanks

and yeah people are right on the originals - bite bite bite. I'd say the same for carver C7's unless you're just using small wheels like 60mm-65mm, and lots of riser.

the cool thing about the FatDaddy is you don't really need a super surfy carving truck -- there's so much wheelbase to play with, if you just have a good set of softer bushings up front you'll be able to surf it. i usually run randal 150s on my "pumping" board and 180s on the one I use just for big hill carving.

It's a shame because if the originals had a bit less turn to them they would be perfect because they send the wheel dead center into the Fat Daddy's cutouts, but they're just too turny and the width of the deck puts extra leverage on the trucks which turns them very easily even when you use the stronger springs.

yeah look at the Hamboard setup, they dug some serious wells into the bottom of the deck for originals! so you might have to go from wheel wells to cutouts... but I'd try making some randals work before whacking into a deck like this. or consider extra riser if you really want the make the originals work

I got some info from LBS . They suggest R-II 180mm,50*/50* and a half inch riser for 70 mm wheels .

Randall RII 180s are a must if you don't want wheel bite. If you put 1/4" risers you can get away with 76mm+ wheels. I never had a fat daddy but I have a nosewalker also a massive board I have 80mm kryptos under that bitch.

Read my sig for the setup I'm running currently. It's rad, you can pump the crap out of that setup.

I wedged the front and back...not sure how thick they are, just the wedges off MHS.

I had to get a buddy to use a belt sander on the pointless factory wheel wells. The wheel wells seem to be positioned for conventional kingpin trucks, far too small to be practical. Granted I weigh 230 on soft bushings...

Fun as crap, I haven't gotten bite with this setup, but I've been to busy skating it to nit-pick the components.

    peace

In my experience R-180s with 1/4" riser and 76mm wheels would definitely bite, unless your bushings are extremely stiff and tightened up. I'd run at least 1/2" riser with 180s.

Most of the time I ran 150s which most people think are too narrow -- but I like the tighter carving radius, and the narrower hangars give you even less chance of bite with same amount of riser.
