Default My First All Terrain Board XD

    Hi everybody,

My first all terrain board (should be) arriving today. It's an Exit Sunrise mountain board. Just wondering if anybody has ridden or rides one of these. If so how do they ride and are they good for beginners?

One more point, how do people usually react to atb's at skateparks?

    Thanks,
    Jimmy

Have never seen that brand.. but ATB kiting is the ####. go get yourself a decent traction kite and find yourself a big field, wear a helmet and have fun...

Cool. I am currently broke (due to buying my ATB) but I am hoping to buy a kite as soon as possible. I'll post any videos of my embarrassing noobishness on youtube.

    XD

P.S. Thanks to the bank holiday my first atb did NOT arrive today as expected. So I will have to wait till tomorrow.

Hi Jimmy, I haven't rode an Exit, but I'm sure its a good board to learn on and you'll have tons of fun. I ride my ATB in skateparks alot. Here's my suggestions; try to ride when the park is not crowded (mornings, weekdays, ect..). You want to learn your lines and build your skatepark skills. This will allow a smoother transition when riding with skaters, bmx'ers, ect.. Expect some attitude from others, not everyone is going to think that you belong there, but respect others lines. Be vocal when dropping in. This lets others know to be aware of you. Always were your protective gear, and keep practising. Once you learn to ride skateparks on an ATB, it makes riding in the dirt even easier.

You'll have alot more fun in a skatepark if you inflate your tyres to the max. They may say 35psi on them but people have been known to ride >80psi in parks, it depends on your wheels rather than the tyre stop pumping when you see bending! If you're predominantly riding skate parks it may be worth buying metal hubs (MBS Rockstars or GI Terraintulas). Pad up too, you may not be able to bail as easy with the bindings. Have fun and ignore the haters!

    I got my ATB today!

It was way more fun than I was expecting.

Going out again tomorrow to kill myself on a hill and will be going to redhill sometime soon.

These guys go up to Redhill most weekends and riding with Clive is what got me really back into ATB, we hit several comps last summer inluding the European Downhill! Best summer ever, drop them a line.

Awesome. Will do. I'm going to have a few kiteboarding lessons soon. Should be a laugh. I only have the original bindings, will that be a problem?

The original bindings are fine for kiteboarding. You may want to get some heelstraps for downhill though; it's much safer when your feet can't come out!

Cool. Problem is I only have basic bindings(similar to the MBS freeflex)if you know the ones I mean, so I will not be able to attach heel bindings. Any way of getting round this or will I have to splash out for a new pair of bindings?

You can fix heelstraps to anything, the mbs ones have holes and a loop (the velcro ones, not sure about the ratchet ones). Also a bungee cord (the type with hooks on) wrapped in pipe foam is a good alternative if you're strapped for cash!

Make sure u get some with strong hooks, I bought some from a pound shop and the hooks bent and slipped off! Also, wrap the foam in duct tape so it doesn't rip. Duct tape is the mountain boarders best friend, never ride witout a roll!

a lot of kiters (in the water) use a bicycle inner tube to make a heel straps.. there all of $3 at wally world and one will give you quite a few. just another option.

Never seen that, sound good. How do you attach it? Just tie it in a knot?

Make sure you go on the ATBAUK web forum. All of the UK riders post there.
