<--- freeliner 8)
I actually prefere freelines when it comes to campus cruising from my car to my class door. They're fast enough, maneuverable to cut hallway traffic, light weight, and fit under my chair while im in class.

Freelines are fun. I know they look like a Ripstik when you're pumping, but having ridden both, I can assure you they're not the same. Freelines are much harder to learn, and they roll much faster. They're a hoot in parking garages. They're not a substitute for longboarding, but they're something fun to play with.
You haters OK with it if I keep playing with my toys, or should I go home and tell Mama I'm a looser?
.
Why are you reading my sig? It's boring.

Re: Freeline is Legit, YO...
I got a pair, learned to ride them a bit and then sold them online. They are fun once you develop the muscle memory for movements you don't do much.
Of course the major design flaw is the high CG and no bindings. I made a CAD drawing off of the set I had and designed a lower version with bindings. If anyone has a CNC machine I'll send you the file to make a prototype.
Freeline was the second product I saw Red China knocked off and Alibaba flooded. The first product I saw it happen to was the original Essboard casterboard made by a company in South Korea. It must take alot of faith to make a product in the far east free world knowing that the communist don't respect international patent law. You have no market protection for your effort at all.
Interesting clip of the tv shows. They rode for about 30 seconds. What were they talking about the rest of the time? Was it all Freeline testimonials?

Re: Freeline is Legit, YO...
If you record yourself and watch yourself you can get pretty steezy with them. Watch mattie tyce on youtube. Don't want the japanese riders from japan though. They look weird. They make it look like inline skating.
I've recorded my friends longboarding down hills at about 25mph on freelines. They're pretty stable up to speed. Their downfall when up to speed though is they start to turn less and less and unless you can powerslide on freelines you have no way to stop. They're really zippy though. I can handle hallway traffic like nothing. Just pumping and propeling I can get up to maybe 15-20mph just on flats.
But yeah. They're definaly not a longboard replacement. They're just another something to play with.

Re: Freeline is Legit, YO...
what I dont understand is why they are always demoing these hybrid wackywheel inventions in skate parks, it looks like it would be much more suitable for a paved bike path or something

That's the only major difference, but it's a big difference. Compare the ride from a skateboard with immobilized, non-turning trucks and a Tierny Board. Visually, they're similar, but they sure won't ride the same.
Xliders are more nimble and easier to use due to the casters. They're also much slower and totally unstable on hills. Freelines take more learning, but once you get it, you can cruise farther & faster, and you can bomb hills. Xliders are better for dancing in place, if you're into that. I prefer hills and parking garages. 8)

The park is where the guys who hang with the inventor like to skate, so that's where the vids end up getting shot. And of course, the company is targeting skateboarders- I think that's a mistake, but it's what they're doing. The real problem is, that skateboarders have been figuring out cool stuff and how to do it for 50-ish years. Freeliners are mostly just trying to figure out how to copy those same tricks & moves, and it never looks as good as the original, especially to eyes that are used to seeing it done on a board. Unless & until a new style of riding emerges that Freelines are better at than a board, they're always gonna be a sideshow in the ramp/park skateboarding marketplace.

True. The biggest problem is marketing to skateboarders. They are mostly concerned with how they look and are way to scared to deviate from what their friends ride to try anything else.
Anyone who trys to market a new skateboard product to skateboarders is doomed to lose.
Freelines will never make it until you can jump them. It is boring on the ground and you limited to half or less of the potential tricks if you are tied to the ground or can only early grab a flyout.
