Re: Not Carveboard carveboards
I rigged my Rennegade with the standard matrix trucks (15.5") with tophats/springs on the inside position (no adjustabilitiy). Very loose but low tip angles made it ride high. Nonetheless never lost any springs or had problems with serious permanent spring compression.
With 20s and no eggs (permanent outside settings) it was loose enough to carve. The leverage of 20" axles permanently compressed the springs within 6 mos and the condition you described above happened (front spring popped out midway down a carving run). Got very loose very fast.
That gave me an idea. I rigged the 20s with no eggs or springs up front and red eggs with springs in rear. Radical ride that was very responsive. Almost no significant permanent rear spring compression. Front springs are the springs that take the real punishment in hard-lean carving.
But I had to keep playing and added orange rear and yellow front with new springs to minimize spring compression. Increased speed significantly and stiffened carve which led to swinging too wide, hitting a curb, and bending the front axle.
I plan to use inside settings only with the 18" Matrix Wides, maybe yellows up front maybe none. Maybe yellows in rear with yellows up front. Maybe reds or oranges rear and no eggs but springs up front. Tension adjustment bolt for "minor adjustments/fine tuning." Should keep me experimenting until December.
Well my recent rigs (even the 20s before permanent compression) don't have any problems doing what is being done in your carveboard picture. I will be using the Wide Matrix for my decks. Their (MBS) carve board deck is to narrow for me. I like 10" wide for extra lean leverage.
I'm fairly confident I can minimize spring over-compression on the 18" Wides with adjustable inside settings. But that's what I want to find out.
