Bottom line: don't be a hater just because you can't do a grind on vert on your DH board

Pretty good compilation of some of the best Streetboard riding and riders.
Those guys really want to become famous riding those boards in those situtations at that great of a risk. They look really stupid without helmets and pads. This is a case where an extreme sport manufacturer should be held liable for promoting their sport unsafely.
It reminds me of a Saturday Night Live sketch from years ago where Dan Aykroyd is playing a sleazy toy manufactuer selling "Bag o' Broken Glass" as a kids educational toy.
Here is some of what it takes to get those prefect tricks in the final videos -
The castor that supposed to make it ride like a snowboard is pretty pointless. Its ok on a freebord since it's making it really easy to slide soft wheels but hard wheels are already easy to slide. The castor doesn't really add anything.
You might as well just put sky hooks on a trick deck and chop the rest of the tail off for what they're trying to do.
"yay i dont have to learn how to ollie anymore!!!!!!!"
Yeah....I suppose it is cool that they bring that snowboardy-type feel to regular "street" environment.
But when I used to skate a regular skate deck and was learning tricks, I took a lot of pride in my ollie. Even if it was over small things, like a curb or something.
So I'm not trying to discredit that kind of board or whoever rides it, but I feel it takes out a lot of the challenge that skating parks, rails, and street, trick style skating has.

Don't profile me by my age you kook, and don't tell me that I didn't appreciate it, I never said that.

Sorry, I mistook that statement as being unappreciative of the sport of streetboarding. I thought you were being disrepectful of the sport. I didn't know you were just misinformed.

Isn't it just a different sport that brings a different kind of challange?
Can't the Longboard Hybrids forum be removed from the recent posts listing to stop the haters from trolling and flaming?
Yeah, I hear your point.. but then all of us who like seeing different formations of boarding come to life would have to go join a whole other forum. It is best to ignore the trolls and just continue on.
Why discredit someone because suddenly.. their tricks don't take an ollie. This is irrelevant in snowboarding, wakeboarding. I have never done any street skating because I just didn't get the fun in it. Watching everyone struggling to ollie. If you progressed into this sport through snowboarding it makes logical sense; Why wouldn't you want bindings?
On the side of the castors.. personal preference I spose.
Gomer you bring up a whole good point on the side of safety. If the company promoting their product doesn't enforce their riders to wear appropriate safety gear they (the company) are creating an environment for beginners that is going to suggest you just have to eat it a few times and you'll be fine. Naturally beginners will emulate the best; if the best in the world can be convinced to wear safety gear I believe the beginners will put it on shortly there after. Sadly; most of the professionals are not at the point in their life yet where they're thinking about keeping their skull and bones intact.
as always sk8norcal thanks for informing us about new and different visions for boarding.

gomer, there are always going to be people hating on new ideas and "innovations"
half the problem is brought on by the "innovators/marketeers" themselves. trying to appeal to the hardcore / gnar element, taking a board which was designed mainly for cruising then trying to one-up street tricks by doing insane triple flips, jumps and grinds. doing it without helmets is even more hardcore, these kids are willing to eat, pee, and poop through tubes the rest of their lives just to be famous on Youtube for a few minutes, that's impressive. to be honest though, the stuff they're pulling off really is pretty sick, I can't imagine doing this without at least 2-3 feet of soft powder to land in... anyway this kind of video only begs for a challenge and turf war of egos, so are you really surprised at the backlash?
IMO what they should do is just not try to emulate all the same street tricks done on traditional skateboards, and instead focus on what they think their board does better.
What he said. Man I love it when someone beats me to the punch....all those things I no longer have to type.
Of course I don't think I will ever strap one of these things to my feet. Hey they're just not for me, I would rather put some blades on and a helmet if I was going to try some of those tricks.....
