When I watch this type of footage, my mind goes to bicycles and what they can do in this environment. I've never seen mountainboards in the dirt doing what a bike or a snowboard can do. Dual slalom, bikercross and downhill bicycle racing are all so much fun to watch. Downhill/freeride skateboard racing also looks so much more intense and the level of competition and skill just looks so much higher. Not trying to be a dick, just my two cents.

    No dickishness assumed.

What you say about mountainboard boarder cross is correct. It just doesn't look that great on video. Although, I think the two might be equaly exciting in person. ATB races are more exciting in person than on video because you better understand what it takes to control the board on the track at speed with others close by.

Bikes are different because of the ablity to brake and pedal. Snowboard is different because their greater control on the surface and the consequences of a crash are not as drastic as on a mountainboard.

I think snowboard and ATB big air are as close as any other sport. Although the size of the jumps and air times are bigger on snow, ATB riders come very close and in some cases and have as much style as snow riders.

The video from Fat Face was excellent and really showcases the state of the art in big air.
the UK riders have been carrying the sport for years.

This is where US ATB fails in the US. They call the boards All-terrain boards. I call them no terrain boards because it is just so difficult to find places to ride legally that there is no terrrain to ride.

In the UK there are ATB Centres all over the country. They can do that in the UK because they have tort laws making the perosn who sues for an injury at a sports venue responsible for paying the costs of the trail if they lose.

We can't have private ATB parks or skateparks in the US because the trials lawyers give too much money to a certain group of politians. Those politians haven't allowed tort reform to happen so that their rich donors can finance the politians' campaigns.

Municipal Parks Departments aren't going to finance ATB parks like they skateparks. It is just not popular enough to risk.

That is pretty much why ATB riding will never take off in the US. There is no place to ride.
