Re: Streetboard Halfpipe- World Championships 2009
Not hating or anything, but personally when i see stuff like streetboards (which are just skateboards strapped to your feet) I feel like the riders are sort of offending the sport of skateboarding. I mean it takes year and years of practice to do tricks like that on a skateboard but on streetboard it takes maybe a couple of weeks on a snowboard (atleast for me). Skaters practice so much to make sure that the board doesnt fly away but strapping it to your feet just seems like cutting corners. I give props to the riders for doing all those great tricks on the streetboard but i wonder if they would even be able to ride a normal skate board and be able to air.(some which im sure they can)
Not really making an argument or anything, just ranting i guess. lol

It's a funny thing; where do you draw the line? I mean, it certainly seems like cheating to use bindings like that. But I'm sure those guys are having fun, which is cool. And if they start developing tougher tricks, tricks that could never be done on a traditional skateboard, then what's wrong with that?
I mean, were the Z-Boys cheating when they upgraded to urethane wheels instead of clay? Was the first guy to move from looseball bearings to precisions cheating? Are modern vert skaters cheating by using twintip popsicle decks instead of fat, heavy, flatnose decks? Are speedboarders cheating by using foamcore carbonfiber decks and cnc'd reverse kingpin trucks?
And yet, I have to admit, despite my logic telling me that innovation is natural, and anything fun is good... that my first reaction is still that those things look like cheating to me. I can't say why they cross the line, I'm not even sure where the line is, but...

Definitely how i feel about it. Guess the next generation of skaters are gonna show us up with their hoverboards and such. lol

It feels like cheating because they aren't doing anything new or different. It's just a watered down mix of snowboarding and street/vert style skating. If they had some thing that made it original it would seem less like cheating.

So some snowboarders got bored one summer and strapped a deck to their feet. Who cares? It's not skateboarding... it's not cheating... it's just streetboarding
