'Nother thing to think about with the Stik for longtime cruising is that the trucks really stick out and trying not to kick them might get tiresome.

Having said that, I have happily gone around the 'hood with my son on his bike and me on my Stik.

Well, we made a decission. This morning my son was looking at the Carve Surfstik website and was asking questions. So I explained that the stik would be hard on flats such as our community and area. Since he grasps the concept of carving, I told him he would lose speed and push harder to have to go.

So he went back to liking the Pintail. So my wife and I were out today and swung by the local skateboard shop a couple miles away. They carry Loaded boards, so we picked out the Loaded Pintail Flex 3 (they didn't have 4 and not sure if it even came in a 5). We also got the Premium with Gumball 76mm /78a wheels. It also has the Randall 150s trucks on them. So it is hidden away and will go under the tree with a bow on Christmas morning.

Thanks again to everyone for your opinions. Some pros/cons I had to weigh out figuring in the 9 year old kid factor....

Surfstik Pro - Different style board since I have a Vanguard. Unique and fun looking.

Surfstik Con - Still a toy when given to a 9 year old. If he got tired of it or I wasn't having fun with it, I am stuck with the parts that are on it. At least with the Pintail if he gets unhappy, I can use the trucks, wheels, etc. and just find another deck down the road.

If I'm not mistaken, the loaded pin only comes in three flexes. The vanguard comes in five.

It's good you talked to him about it and showed him his options, and I'm sure he'll be happy as ever when he sees what santa brought him.

I recomend you that if you go with the stick better get it from the carvestik site. There you'll find the right board you your jr. Just dont get the first one you find. There are different settings available. I have a stik and use it in miami. I have no problems whatsoever because anyway I don't have too much space to develop speed anyway. With the proper technique the kid is not suposed to loose speed while carving. Or at least not that much. Beware, it's heavy and the parts are not easy to find. The carvestick is a very specialized board. Even the bearings are different.

About the experience, I love it. It's a great board to maneuver between people and all around.

I bought a Carveboard from this kid yesterday for 30 bucks. It's weathered pretty hard. Looks like he left it out in the rain for 6 months. I need to repair or replace the actual board soon. I rode it around the parking lot... It's a NICE ride. I can U-Turn within one parking space, without touching the lines.

It's not practical for tricks or sliding, but it's a NICE carver. I'd recommend to everyone of adding a tension spring carving truck setup to their collection.

New is 230+... The trucks are pretty much indestructible. The axles are just 10mm bolts (4 of them) with a nut in a slot. If you bend one, it's 2.50 for a replacement. The cones wheels I got were in nice shape too. Even the bearings seem in pretty good shape.

Even though it's a nice ride, it IS a major pain in the ass to clean and maintain the trucks. For a unique, incomparable ride, i give it a 4 out of 5 based on the fact that I love carving more than sex with girls.

My son has indicated he wanted the Loaded Pintail for X-Mas, but tonight we were in Ron Jon's and he saw the Carve Stik board. The guy at the shop said it's really for hilly areas and since we are in South Florida where it's flat, he said he didn't recommend it.

However, I turn to you guys. How is the Carve Stik for cruising around? I know it's capable of many things, but for starters my son is 9 years old and just cruising. However, I would be riding it too So I'm 5'10" and 190. Would it be good as just a cruising board on the streets and sidewalks?

Right now, I love my Vanguard and I popped on some 90mm Flywheels and enjoy the long distance rolls with little effort. But I also was fine with the Loaded (Kryptos) 70mm wheels on it.

So if it came down to choosing between the Loaded Pintail and the Carve Stik, what's your thoughts? (keeping in mind we have a Loaded Vanguard now as well).

    Thanks
im 15 i got a carve stik when i was 10, i still ride it and i also have the original apex 34 but i might prefer the carve stik and ive had it for 5 years and nothings wrong with it at all and i rode it everyday and i left it in the rain alot (i was 10...) and about the hills? i live in st.augustine florida no hills whatsoever.. its awsome for cruising i dont know what the guy at the shop was talkin about? but the best part about this board is how stable it is!! but when you wanna turn you can make a U-turn in a parking spot. but its amazing how smooth and controlled it is. i say go with carve stik
