Default Need Help choosing a mountain board

Here in NC we have a huge BMX scene, thus a lot of trails to ride around here, but since i can't bike those worth crap, i was thinking of trying out one of these mountain boards...

I'm definitely looking for a freestyle board, and from what i've read, Ground Industries makes great stuff

so from GI, i've narrowed it down to:

    -Flight Light 100

    -Pro Flight 93

...I'm a larger dude, so naturally i was thinking of the Flight Light 100, but the pro flight is a decent bit cheaper

Does anyone know the stance length for the Flight Light or the Pro Flight...because i really don't want to try and order one and feel all cramped up on it

ANY suggestions (within the realms of this topic) would be helpful

and if anyone has other Companies they would like to tell me about, Other Boards that i should consider, or cheaper online shops for some of these boards, that would be greatly appreciated

oh, and please keep in mind that I'm a total newb to this, and my knowledge of Mountainboarding is basically limited to what i have read in these boards and Google searches (including Wikipedia)

    -Thanks

I've got a buddy here that is a big boy and has a Ground Industries board he might be willing to sell.
    Interested?

    yea I'm interested
    what board is it specifically?
and How big exactly is your friend?

i know that in comparison to some of the other people i skate with, i'm a "larger guy" but in full retrospect i'm decently average, if that helps at all

Never ridden any of their newer performance models but MBS has some nice boards. One I have seen recommended for skaters is the Leafe Pro. For Larger riders (180 and up) I believe they like the Leon Pro. These boards use tension adjustable channel trucks. You can join the dirtboarders forum and ask at:
    www.dirtboardx.com/talk

    Go to www.mbs.com or www.mtbz.com

I ride modifed versions of some of the earlier MBS boards now. Put them together with "new" old parts. Moved from the MBS all terain skate truck to old style channel trucks. I use the channel trucks on the loosest shock setting possible (pretty much the same as a carveboard but different board and axle lengths and much cheaper). My thing is carving steep asphalt though.

    My $0.02.
The older I get, the better I was...

if its a heavier guy the GI board is probably the flitelight. I'd suggest that or the dirty leafe if you intent to beat the crap out of it, the mbs pro 8 is also good for parks, and has the shortest wheel base. Either bindings are sick, and the same goes for the trucks. From what i understand mbs rockstar hubs and t-1 tread are where its at, but my wheels are outdated. Wait a month or two though, mbs just let out a preview of its 2007 line, personally i think the graphics arent all that nice, but the equiptment is sick.

Thanks for all the help guys

I've decided to go with the GI flightlight from OldnBroken's friend Dave.

I'm really stoked about all of this, and i can't wait to start riding it!

twitch where are you from? the mountainboard scene is pretty sparce, but people are always looking for people to ride with. Also check out www.dirtboardx.com, the "talk" section is to mountainboarding what the fish is to longboarding. Only way smaller, because there are way less of us.

glad to get another one in the dirt.

edit: YOURE IN NC!!! the holler is in NC, its one of the best mountainboard specific parks on the east coast, and the owner (Justin Rhodes) is the man! Good location, i'm jelous.
