so does anybody else have a ripstik besides me?
i've already searched on it but i didnt see any posts so i just thought i'd start one
i got mine about 6 months ago and its awesome
great for small areas, gives you the chance to throw some superhard carves
and to me its very much like surfing
i've never snowboarded, so i cant say if it feels like that
but it definately feels like surfing to me
i highly recommend getting one if you wanna spice things up!
I've almost bought one of those, but it just looked... ...uh, fruity!
I saw a big dude on one once, and that movement loves akward. BUT, I am interested to see if anyone else has had a positive first hand expirience.
haha....yea, it does have a bit of that fruit-loop look to it
but once you get on it, forget it man...you'll be hooked
its got a lot of flow to it that cant really be compared to any normal skateboard
i know i love it, but i love anything with wheels...
i think there's 2 different brands out there: the ripstik and the wave
I figured it'd be like pumping...will get you around without pushing...but isn't meant to look cool Actually, I tried one out at a local sports authority I like the smooth lines your feet follow, like a constant slalom, just weaving in and out
It's a caster "board". There's a perpetual motion technice of using it. It's like roller blading in "stick" form!
krownraider43 do you have a regular ol' longboard? If not you may be missing out on something you'd like.
yup! i got a krown pintail 43inch this past january
and i love the hell outta that thing
i cruise it every chance i get
i'm workin on my steppin so i can be a dancin fool in my neighborhood
but for those times i wanna just mess around in my driveway i bust out my ripstik!
Cool, I guess I'll try one out next time I go to the sports store, but since I have a bunch of boards and I'm getting really solid with pumping... I probably don't have much a use for it.
I figured you had a Krown by your name. My wife's first board was a Krown pin, they're a really underated value. After she got her second board we turned the Krown into a shelf! It's pretty cool looking.
Welcome to the world of longboarding... ...and ripsticking?
i tried one the other day and the ride is strange,i couldn't really get the hang of it. its not like a longboard where you turn the same way with both feet you need to turn your feet seprately. but it does feel cool.
ya, it definately takes a bit of getting used to
here's a little ripstik 101 from a girl that knows:
starting off was a mental thing for me to get over, but its really not that hard
you put your front foot on, give a push with your back foot and immediately place your back foot on...that's when you start to carve
you tilt the front ankle forward as you tilt the back ankle backwards, then alternate
this allows you to turn right then left and so on
that's what gives you momentum and propells you forward
the frontside 180 turns were tricky for me at 1st cos of the 'lean' you have to put into it
but after the 1st couple of tries i had it down like butter
the more you carve and get used to the sharp turns the more you get into it
and that's when style comes into play
getting down low on backside turns looks really styled out, its one of my fav. moves to do
and the lower you position yourself on the board creates a difference in balance
it just amazes me that you never need to stop, not ever
you never need to put your foot down to kick, its the carving motion that keeps you going
after an hour of being on the board your legs feel it, so its not a bad work out at all
but your right, its not very fast
its not something you notice right away, especially when your doing hard carves
its something i realized when i tried to go down the sidewalk, then immediately jumped on my longboard and the difference in speed was insane
either way its a fun board to have and mess around with, not meant for transportation or speed
it comes with abec5 bearings, so maybe changing those out will increase the speed
but i doubt it since carving keeps you going and yet also slows you down
the only way you can really find out is going downhill
downhill on a ripstik is all gliding, super smooth and fast
and you can tilt the board sideways like a longboard if you keep both wheels straight while you do it
tilting both ankles forward or back, will give you a totally different feeling on the board
i can only think its gotta be similar to snowboarding, but i've never done that so i'm just guessing
tip on maintenance from my experience so far:
the back wheel gets worn down faster than the front
so it needs to be rotated after a while and eventually changed to avoid slipping out on turns
hockey wheels can be used for replacement
