Default Freeboarding?

I'm sure there are hundreds of freeboarding threads, but anyway, does anyone here freeboard? What is it exactly? I've seen some people I know freeboarding, and it seems interesting. Does anyone know what kind of gear I would need to start doing it myself?

Any responses greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Slide gloves and optional helmet and kneepads. It's really different from longboarding and I think its considerably different than snowboarding. Once you figure it out it is really fun.

The freeboard itself is kinda like a crappy longboard that has a swivel wheel in the middle which you center your weight on allowing you to rotate and slide around.

When you first ride one it will be awkward but you just have to go down a hill and figure it out.

Yeah, I went and searched it, and looked at some vids, it seems like a weird modded board with really wide trucks and popsicle wheels, with some small castors in the middle to make it tilt a lot. Also need hills too apparently.

check out the web site www.Freebord.com

Freebording is a snowboard simulator on pavement. It uses longboard wheels for the edges (the most popular are the freebord manufactured slashers, which resemble the old krypto blues), and roller skate wheels for the centers..... yes you need a hill, but you can push, although it takes practice..... its fun

freebord.com/forum

it'll be the most fun thing you'll ever try. People just hate on it cuz they don't want to spend the time to learn it, but once you learn it, it'll be hella fun. You can pretty much bomb down anything from the streets of san fransisco to anywhere else. And you can go pretty fast on it too. If you check out the how to freebord video there's a guy going like 55 down Hiller.

he rides it switch in the video too, nuts.

but ya freebords are the #### and the only board that claims it rides like a snowboard that actually does (even catching an edge), ya its slightly different because your on pavement but its the closest any board will ever come.

Really fun. You need hills to do it, though.

I got one.. Its fun and I have to agree its probably the closest youll get to snowboarding the streets. On the downside you need hills to ride it and it seems to have some fragile parts, but the manufacturers are good people reasonable people if anything bad should happen with the board.

But know this: I havent used mine since I started with downhill

I wasn't all that interested in the Freebord until I saw some people jumping with it (I heard you couldn't jump it). I"m interested in knowing how well the trucks hold up to jumping.
People having been doing freestyle tricks for ages on it.

Trucks hold up pretty damn good for jumping. The castor can pop out after a couple weeks of jumping but using JB weld on it after it falls out will effectively prolong the castor to around 2 or 3months for the avid freestyler.

The wheels take about 4months of hard relentless riding to wear to the point where they affect your ride.

The center rollerblade wheels takes forever to wear down.

So yeah and freebord is working on indestructible trucks.

the deck itself only breaks if you do repeated extended boardslides otherwise it can last for years.
