I think it would be fun to pump around the ice rink on a slalom or pumping setup. I have not seen any skateboard blades available readily but I doubt it would be exactly what would be needed anyway.
I'm thinking about making some to try out and a few points have come to mind.
-They would need to be short to be able to rotate on the ice without too much drag, 2-3" long or about the same distance (width) that a slalom wheel rubs when turning.
-Need to be grippy... Maybe two blades in place of each wheel, each angled 15 degrees to vertical. Angled grind on edge.
-Flat along the length of the bottom, no need for curvature like an ice skate since the trucks do the turning.
-Blade assemblies would swivel on axle and mount as low as possible.
-Blade assembly could be shrouded with urethane or plastic for safety, with the shroud ending just above the ice
Any thoughts?
What about rubber grip on the board and coarse grip tape (floor sander belt) on shoes? Then footbraking, pushing, and stepping off the board would be a bit more friendly.

maybe use real tough rubber and use some of those little things you put on you shoe that have like screw heads on them for traction. those things will not slip on ice what so ever. and for blades you could just take some off of some children ice skates.
it would be awesome to see this work-- i think you'd get some pretty fast speeds, much better glide than wheels on asphalt, I'd be tempted to start with a GS- or larger sized board so you'd have lots of wheelbase to match the speed. we don't have big frozen lakes here, so I'd have to try to find an unusually cooperative ice rink to ride before/after hours.
i know kickflips and tricks are what draws the crowd. i'd still like to see the pure speed potential pumping on ice flats-- a bigger wheelbase, maybe slightly longer blades, set up like a big distance pumper.
A guy who I skate with named Geo Myler (GEO on here) Made some blades for his slalom board. He can pump on an Ice rink with it pretty well. He could also have his dog pull him around the block on an Icy street.
Nothing quite like Radikals for ice slalom!

James, what sort of length do you think would be appropriate? Longer and straight for the rear? Maybe a radius on the bottom of the front blades to help turning?
TVAR, are there any pictures of these?
Here is what i've come up with. The waterjet is up and running at work so I can whack something out pretty soon. Those are biltins and the frame and blade are steel.

Here's a couple of shots of my board with the blades on them.
This is my daughter getting pulled around the block after I put the blades on my longboard, just don't hit a dry spot without snow!
I made them from an old pair of skates and drilled the holes for the axles.

.
i love when people bump old threads...my attention span doesn't go much beyond "New Post"
was thinking something close to LDP specs, 38" with 27-29" WB and yeah whatever would make the blades able to dig in and track, same principles, with good stiff traction in the rear and a little more agile in the front.
also curious how well GEO's board 'grips' the ice when trying to pump??
