do you guys think i should get a mountain board with a brake when i buy one or go without, i do plan on doing some single track and downhill.
Wilder does some mountain boarding, and I was talking about this with him the other day, when we found a downhill mountain biking track in Seattle. He said often times the brake gets in the way, and gets wrapped around stuff. I'd say get the sky-hooks, loosen the trucks, and learn to standup slide it.

i second learning to slide without hand brake. I have a MBS Pro 16, once you learn to slide you will be fine. I also that with the hand brake it does get in the way and if your not used to it the sudden change in your momentum it can toss you of your board.

that depends on your comfort level with the terrain. There are guys who run single track at breakneck speeds with no breaks and guys at the same riding level who will do some really difficult free riding with modified pneumatic breaks on the front and rear axle.
Whichever way you go though, they are a bit of a pain to take on and off all the time, most people i know who ride brakes usually have more than one set up.
that's what im thinking, because i can slide so i dont think actually stopping will be real hard, just speed control is what ill need to work on for single track. and brake setups are pretty expensive. so im thinking about a gi patrol 106, do you think that will be pretty good.
edit:i also want to ride the local ski resort, still think it is good.
Ya, the patrol should be just fine for that, perhaps in a few different torsion cubes for different levels of technicality if youre running a lot of different single track. You will get a broader range of rideabilities out of your board that way, think like the slalom dudes and their bushings. That deck should keep you happy for a while even if you venture into freestyle stuff, its a good board.
ps, if you go with that, let me know how the bindings are, i'm looking to pick up a pair because i dont particularly care for the MBS ones.
