Default Hybrids a dying breed?

Ive just noticed that there has been a slow decline in the amount of people interested (at least that are posting) about hybrids. Are people just fed up with them and realize a regular longboard works better in most situations (personal opinion) or are they just bored with them, since there hasnt really been anything new that has gained any hype lately? I guess there is the third reason, that they are just to busy riding them to be on the internet about it, but I doubt it

YouTube - Freebord fall
YouTube - Loaded Hammerhead
YouTube - 30mph Downhill Quadline Skateboarding
YouTube - snakeboard crash
YouTube - Squirmboard inline skateboard

Before I started getting better at longboarding/skateboarding and before I knew what it was all about, I went through a hybrid phase. Starting with a T-board, then with the Freebord. After I learned to slide though, I lost interest almost immediately in both and never looked back. I did continue to Mountainboard, but in my opinion its less of a hybrid and more of its own genre.

Anybody else have similar experiences?

I think your "phase" explains it. Alot of guys used it to get into this sport, then slowly phased it out. Plus, this is a forum focused on longboarding, so guys who do only hybrids - ie Mountainboards wouldn't have much reason to stumble in here. Thats my 2 cents

I also think that many people just dislike for any reason... like some people dislike the boards because they come with straps or just look different. When I joined the fish i got so sucked into these hybrids but i just phased out of it. though I have some concepts that are really sick, but i know many people here would still disagree on them.

I think alot of people just hate them cuz they are different but in my opinion i really enjoy the difference

Some hybrids are pretty cool and I continue to ride Dirtsurfer, Outback three wheel mountainboard, Carveboard, LongStik.
One of the reasons I think folks don't talk much about them is they are sold as complete working models so the need for the amount of discussion about wheels, trucks, decks, parts etc doesn't really come into play.
Not a lot of room for tweaking and changing stuff like most of the gear we talk about here all the time.
Also, I find that lots of fishies, who grew up skating, are pretty closed minded about anything non conventional.
Not sure why they need to come to the hybrid threads and post derogatory comments about anything they are not familiar with, but it happens and sends the hybrid guys packing.

EXACTLY!!! like one of the ""phrases" i live by is don't hate anything you have never tried cuz honestly how are you going to hate something you have never tried... that's how it was for me and longboarding I thought it was kinda dumb till my brother got me on one and i started.

Good points. I had'nt thought about not having as much "custom-a-bility" (yeah, i made it up). And I too dont understand why people only post negative things about things they havent tried. Well, unless its about the Jumpboard or Quadlines, or somthing equally redicoules

I gotta tell you, that hammerhead looks like a fun ride. I'd love to give that bad boy a go on a nice hill. Preferably one with very little traffic so I can carve like crazy. Seeing as I love the feeling of carving, a hammerhead might be right up my alley. Just wish they weren't so bloody expensive!!!

I might try to make one, I have one of the old flowboards that they sold at sams club when I was a kid. I'm gonna make up a mini hammerhead. If it works I'll send you the second flow truck if you pay the shipping.

Mountainboards and freebords have their own forums where people are like minded and tend to be more friendly towards nuttier boards. Thats why i dont really talk about them here.

I used to rock a snakeboard back in 95' ... but it was really alot of work to just go down the block. It was cool for a school-yard to mess around with, but to seriously roll, nothing tops a longboard.

I used to Freebord a lot, but like you said, it started to gather dust once I got into sliding. I still think it's an awesome snowboard sim, but I only liked to ride it on huge hills (anything less just didn't do it for me). Plus, when I see steeps nowadays I'd much rather slide the sh!t out of them! I actually sold my Freebord a few months ago -- more funds for sliding gear, haha.

The reason I got a Freebord is because I didn't think there was any way to stop on a longboard, haha. So I got the Freebord. Ironically, it was for the exact opposite reason that I stopped riding the Tierney board, no way to stop!!!
