i bought 12'x1' plank of solid wood at home depot, reinforced it with a metal pipe, covered it in astroturf for grip, and set a weelbase of about 11'. i put on about 2" of homade rise with 2 andgled risers in the front, slapped on some indy 215 and some old 76mm wheels with $10 bearings. I then installed a basket in the back with a boombox in it, and a small hole near the fron so i could put while rolling down the hill. the total not including the things i already had was:
$40 for deck
$85 for components
so:
$125

Re: Hamboarding....?
I did the homemade job.
Picked up some old bits of Ply and glued it together and then stuck on my S8s` and some old 75a Gumballs. I did wheel cutouts instead of risers. I spent exactly zero time on making it look good so it`s rough as guts.
The weird thing is..... It is most most ridden board in my whole quiver these days.
I wish someone would make a deck that was that big but at half the weight. If I break this one I`ll be trying.

Looks like they use Original S8 trucks... I've got a set of those right here! I've also got some seriously nice 1 1/4 ply in the garage. God, it would weigh a TON, though, that's some heavy stuff.
Hey Drew, you think you could talk your buddy into doing some measurements of the big one? How much does it weigh, roughly?
They are pretty amazing boards. The grip is really different too, there is no grit, but instead feals tacky to your shoes, and not to your hands. The cost is pretty hefty for one of these though, and they weigh a TON. They are monsters to push around the neighborhood, and are wicked high, but you will definately be smiling and laughing the whole time. Aside from that though, once you are rolling downhill they turn and carve like pretty much nothing else out there. Id like to build one for myself and use some Revenge II trucks, or maybe some Bennet 6.0's
I know someone who has 2 Hamboards, a fish and a longboard style. They're fun, big and heavy too.
It even looks like the guy is wearing a wetsuit!!! Awesome.
