Post Carvestik w [MBS] eggshocks review

Hello, great community. After reading various comments from DaddyYo I purchased 2 sets of eggshocks, yellow and one orange from MBS Mountainboards at a cost of $9.95 for each set.

Skip this if you know why you should own a shock if you own a spring. …..if not here’s a quote from carbibles.com “Shock absorbers perform two functions. Firstly, they absorb any larger-than-average bumps in the road so that the shock isn't transmitted to the car chassis. Secondly, they keep the suspension at as full a travel as possible for the given road conditions. Shock absorbers keep your wheels planted on the road…… They work in conjunction with the springs. The spring allows movement of the wheel to allow the energy in the road shock to be transformed into kinetic energy of the unsprung mass, whereupon it is dissipated by the damper.” Although this is a brief description and car related it tells of the need to complement the spring with a shock

WORDY REVIEW: Yellow eggs are labeled [medium] – carving, high maneuverability.
The yellow eggs greatly increased speed and stability. I take the same run with the turns in the same place and fly through it with the eggs. The board feels much safer at higher speeds they give me confidence to go faster. I don’t think speed wobbles are completely eliminated but I haven’t experienced them (maybe because of the way I ride or, not experienced enough to get this board to that level) whatever the reason it feels so much more stable and sure. You can feel the “firmness” of the trucks just from kicking the board. The eggs have allowed me to pass through some nasty sections in the road that may have been trouble before. Possibly the best change is the communication you get from the board, it’s so much easier to initiate, read and control slides. When pumping, the board feels…loaded. I’m not sure if the eggs inhibit the pivot of the trucks if so it’s negligible, the minimum arc the board travels in feels the same. Even with my light weight I can still turn the board with my ankles but the tension in the eggs seems to encourage more style.

The boost in performance and handling is amazing, theres no down side. I obviously can’t say enough, I loved the board from the first but didn’t realize how much could be improved from this mod. It seems a lot of Carvestik owners mention the 15mph speed limit, these eggs will bring speed and control to your ride. Wheels will only affect so much, these eggs help create a working suspension system. this should be the first mod you get....however I got 76mm Earthwing Superballs on order from Daddies. If you luv your Stik then get some eggs it’s cheap, natural, safe and effective.

INSTALL:
Tools needed: hex wrench it came with, ½ wrench, something to cut down the bolts that hold the trucks, dremel, maybe angle grinder, and a clamp or fat friend to get it apart and reassembled (not really needed for the yellow eggs). I would clamp and cut straight, try not to cut with the angle of the thread. The bolt should be cut short enough so that when the board is at rest it’s not touching the eggs.

ORANGE EGGS labeled [Hard] – Speed and Freestyle…..yup.. The orange eliminated some of the pivot of the trucks. Going at a running pace I could turn the board by grabbing rail but I think they doubled the amount of space I needed to turn 180. You don’t install these to do tight carves with but you might install them to get to the bottom fast. I ran hill’s I would never consider before, at speed the ride is stable and maneuverable. I didn't spend that much time with them and unfortunately have no experience with any other longboard except for a sector 9 cosmic, but the orange eggs with a longer deck may be one of the great vehicles to charge hills.

In closing if you read all this then I’m impressed. I can’t give enough thanks to DaddyYo for sharing this amazing complement to our beloved Carveboards I luv it when board sports help each other. Thank you thank you

Bonus..... I had a great talk with the owner/designer very interesting I got details, some spec, design and price info, but you've read your quota for the day..I'll save it for later

thanks roflsore.....yeah I never owned any board with wheels before, actually got the Carvestik to help learn switch and alleviate the down time in between having a surf. From the first day I couldn’t stop riding the thing BUT a few days after I figured I needed to get a “real” board as well. I don't even know what kind of bearings are in this setup but it was cheap the closest thing in reach and something I could learn to pop on.

Here's some pics for you of my "real" board getting it on with my Carvestik

local rippers @ one of our spots....funny thing is that this place is farther than surf for me..but its always on. Don't know why I didn't get into this sooner so much to learn, but it's nice that skills I'm developing on these boards crossover when I'm in the water...especially with landing.

Aloha roflsore, save some money and get a Carvestik! I'll buy you a set of eggs if you do....promise

If you hate nonstandard skateboards, why are you in the longboard hybrids forum? These carvestik things are basically shlongboards with ghetto seismics, anyway.

Also, that video was wiggerific; but kind of awesome because of that.

For some reason, anything not standard takes a beating on the fish.
I think skaters tend to follow like sheep even though they claim not to be herd animals.
I watch people on here bash Carveboards, Dirtsurfers, Longstiks, Mountainboards, T-Boards, Freebords, shortboard skateboards, etc.
I wonder how many have ridden or owned the boards they are pickin' on.
I ride my Carveboard, Longstik, 2 Dirtsurfers, Mountainboard, T-Board and like all of 'em.
At this point, Carveboard and longboards are my favorites but when I'm haulin' ass down the beach with a Dirtsurfer and a traction kite or a Kitewing I'm just lovin' life.
So I try to keep an open mind to the different stuff.
And a LongStik feels better to me than any Seismic trucked board set up I've been on, by a long shot.

I started to learn how to wave ride with a Bodyboard..so I'm used to hearing various opinions about what I "should" be riding. oldnbroken quite a quiver, That traction kite looks similar to some of the kites I’m seeing surfers use but that kitewing…never seen that before looks so direct…so you’re flying now huh.

I think wind is a special energy. Most waves are generated from the energy of a storm, to ride that energy is incomparable. The closest I think I’ve gotten to your experience are the few times I’ve left the wave face, I swear all I could hear was the wind and my shirt flapping....right before the splash. For me after a good surf It feels like a mix between being re-born and making out with a really hot chick, I'm just lovin' life too.

BTW why do you choose to pair your Dirtsurfer with the kites over your Mountainboard?

I ride the Dirtsurfer (down the beach on the hard pack close to the waterline) hooked into a traction foil kite or a (Skimbat) Kitewing instead of mountainboards because four wheelers get speed wobble and throw you at any real speed. You can ride a Dirtsurfer at speed and it just gets more stable as speed picks up. It also takes very little power to get it rolling down the beach with 20 inch bicycle tires on it. So smooth and fluid.
I can ride with board shorts and bare feet, Ipod and just hook in and cruise. Can go 40 mph and feel safe, no problem.
Kiteboarding on the water is what is turning my screws more than anything these days.
I can go out on the lakes here in Austin but we also run down to Corpus Christi all the time and get in the waves too. Small waves but still waves, salt and sand. feeding the stoke big time for me right now. Can't seem to get my skate buddies interested. Very one track minded these guys.
Four wheeled mountainboards are for street carving for me. The Carveboard and Longstik too. T-Board is not really doing it for me. Freebord scares the hell out of me so that is gone. Too old to body slam that hard too often. Longboards for garages and street carving.

I'm sure bDirthead would love to chime in on this topic. He's won like awards and crap for mountain boarding.

I'm stoked that the guy got eggshocks to more stableize his carveboard. Kite surfing/boarding is really cool, but not for me(too much complicated equipment). I've got a good friend (ex-DIRTHEADS Team rider) that teaches kite surfing. I've won a few mountainboard races over the years, and still love to jump on my board and tear up the terrain. But the reason I'm on this message board is the new stoke of sliding and bombing a longboard (with my friends) and the new challenges it provides me. It doesn't matter what you ride, as long as your riding and having fun!
