Hey I want to get into freebording as an alternative to longboarding because it look like fun and it would be cool to switch it up... I see on the Freebord site that there are two different kinds of decks an old one and a new one. The old one only uses alpha trucks while the new ones use the G3 or whatever... I was looking at what people were saying about them and while the G3 are most durable and don't break and easy, there seems to be a bunch of problems and downsides to them. Which do you think I should start with the old ones or new? I like the board graphic on the old alpha compatiable freebords that fit my height the best too. I just want to know if it would be a bad idea to start with the old ones, would I be wasting money? Thanks for the help.
the only freebord decision that is nesesary is not to buy one. i did the same thing your thinking of and i hated it from the moment i got it. DO NOT GET!!! they are tippy and you have to be turning in one direction or another you cant go straight
hmm I dont know if I should get one they look like they could add a whole new dimension to skating, but apparently you cant just cruise around on it very much you just need big giant hills
its very fun if you know what youre doing. my friend has one, not me.
i tried it for about 2 hours. its verryyy hard to get the hang of. but at the very end i was able to maneuver it, but not comfortably.
look at it in the hands of someone that knows what he is doing.
i think itd be uncomfortable on anything where youre spreading your legs too much. remember that you need bindings. if youre thinking just trucks on the outside and bindings around shoulder length apart in the middle. i think youd lose alot of leverage that makes the freebord able to do the things it does.
Ya I wouldnt get one if I were you. If you get one, get it used bc there are tons of people trying to get rid of them, who bought them out of curiosity and hated them.
I think what it is, is that longboarding anybody can really do, it isn't very hard to just cruise around. Of course you can take longboarding to much higher levels but if you just want it so you can cruise around then you can do that like the people who use it for transportation. But with freebord you can't really just cruise around you need to really be doing something intense all the tyme, theres no dicking around with a freebord. I wouldnt be buying one to replace a longboard I just want it as a alternative, and besides it would be fun to learn something new. I don't really use the longboard to just cruise around too much anyway if I go longboarding generally I drive somewhere with consistent hills then I'm constantly carving them with the longboard. But if I was to go cruise around I'd be sure to bring the longboard. Honestly I love longboarding and I don't think freebording will surpass my love for it, but the freebord does look much more difficult and a bit more intricate which is why I think people freak out when they do it. They are used to longboards which as real easy and then step on the freebord, and just go forget that. Rather than just pure style like on a longboard, freebording requires to learn more actual technique as well as style. I also like the fact that it serves as pracitice for snowboarding when you can't snowboard which I really want to start getting heavily into as well.
Actually, they don't spread apart too far. They fit my longboarding stance, I've even went without bindings. But it really is not for cruising. No hills, no glory. It sucks on flat, and bunny hills make it so slow, Bunny can take longboarding up to 20mph, but the freebord stays at 5mph. Unless it's really long, then you can take it to 10mph. You can also catch an edge and fall.
I wrecked my freebord already, I drilled new holes and turned it into a slalom board. It works pretty well too. I have 130mm seismic in the back, and low 130mm venture trucks in the front.
There's so many holes in the freebord it self, you can try new things. I once put 4 trucks on it, and made it a mountainboard. I had 2 180mm randals on the outside, and 2 150mm Seismics in the middle. I had my slalom wheels as the center, and speedboard wheels on the outer.
