First off, I'm sure everyone's tired of these kind of threads.
Second off: there is no such thing as the BEST board. It's all about the best for your style/ what you prefer to ride as in drop downs, drop thrus, topmounts, or any other thing of that sort.

So that being said, what would you really prefer of those? After it is more specifically narrowed down, I'm sure a lot more people will be willing to throw out their recommendations.

there are a bunch of freeride boards, skateboards are like a candy store these days, we are lucky to have so many choices - but remember FFIII, 'its not the ride, it's the rider'.

the most popular longboard deck being made today, one after the other by each company, is this "new" freeride shape, a symmetrical twin tip design with mini tails that you ride it with your feet inside the trucks mounts, also commonly drop thrus
and after adam colton showed the world what can be done on this style board, we're hooked. and so are manufacturers. for instance, just this month Bustin released the Maestro, their take on Freeride. . so as the style and shape continues to evolve -our freeride must evolve, there is no board that your gonna jump on and start doing stand up slides. but on any one of these freeride boards, if you stick with it, YOU will start doing standup slides and progressing. So grab what you can afford or borrow or whatever and just start trying to swing it around,
    besides,
(in my opinion) the answer to the question, "best freeride board" isn't the board at all.......
the most important element to freeride is a set of wheels that you broken over a few hundred miles. seriously, when you have creamy wheels, your board choice is insignificant next to how much time you actually commit to the style. practice makes perfect, boards don't.

I would have to agree with Push. A good board does help, but it is really more about your setup and experience. A good longboarder can slide on any board. It all boils down to experience skill.

As for a good beginner setup, I would get a board that has some concave and I personally like drop-throughs. For wheels, get anything that is in the 80a durometer and above. REMEMBER, any board/setup can slide so get what YOU like.

It really depends on your style and the decks your used to riding, both are fantastic for freeride and dh. The obvious identifying characteristics of the two boards are obviously the avenger W vs the nemmy drop. The avenger is a great board and i find the W to be useful in backside slides. However the nemesis drop really locks you in and preforms great as a slide deck reguardless of the direction your going in.

the 9two5 is newer and has been proven to be an awesome freeride board. I learned to do the best slides for me ever on it with ease. Its very controlled in slides and will do whatever you command it to do without the command being right on perfect. i feel safer on my 9two5 than most boards cause it seems to have more room for error than boards ive ridden. The concave also keeps your feet locked in. it's also a good DH board. i take mine 35+mph on a regular basis. I do agree with other people though, it does rely on what wheels you use a lot and how you have whatever board you ride set up. its easy to tell a difference when you buy new wheels
