If you like original trucks get the apex. if not, dervish. Thats the main difference in the two. Pretty similar shape/function. But the dervish has a little bit more of a nose/tail but the apexs is just fine.

I belive the apex is better for sidewalk surfing and carving and stuff, due to the turning ability of the trucks, but the dervish is better for tricks I think...
you're fine with either in my opinion, just keep in mind that originals need maintenance...

If you want to carve, get the Apex. The Dervish is a great board, but it won't be able to carve as quick as an Apex.

If your commuting in NYC I would say either of those would be fine but the Dervish will be lower and having the drop mount mean you can put split risers between the baseplate and the deck and lower it even more. That makes for easier pushing around NYC. The Dervish also gives you a bit more length. Combined with drop through mounting and reverse kingpin trucks will allow you to do a bit more with it, I feel, in the long run. I had the same issue you have. I was split between the Dervish and the Apex. I went Dervish and couldn't be happier. Nothing against Original, because they are very cool.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Apex lower than the Dervish? My Apex 37 comes in at 4" off the ground in the center, I did a search and according to this post, the Dervish with Paris 180's, "2 soft risers and 2 spacers" and 70mm wheels is 4.5" high.

I guess if you take the ability to throw in more risers, the Derv could be lower.

I don't know man, I just measured my Dervish and at the top of the standing platform, it's 3 1/2" off the ground with Paris 180s and 70mm wheels and no risers. Of course it's higher if you count the pre-loaded camber, which may be higher on a Dervish. You can't measure it there since flex is different on different boards. That isn't how high it is when you stand on it and depending on your weight is different for everyone. At the truck mounting area where it's flatter it's 3 1/2". Is your Apex lower than that?
