Hellcat vs. Drop Speed vs. Demonseed
Hey guys, new here.
I'm about to get my first DH board, and i want to know your opinions on what to get.
I'm either getting a Rayne Demonseed, Hellcat, or a Landy Drop Speed.
I've tried the Hellcat and Drop Speed, and loved them both, can't decide which one's better. Haven't tried a Demonseed yet though, but it looks really badass, and i love huge boards.

Re: Hellcat vs. Drop Speed vs. Demonseed
take your pick of any, the worse thing that'll happen is you'll have fun on a board that doesn't quite work, then trade it for a board you will have more fun on right?
personally i say get the dropspeed, im not a fan of the W concave on the hellcat and double drops are no bueno for me.

Re: Hellcat vs. Drop Speed vs. Demonseed
I have owned both DS's (demonseed and drop speed). They are both great all around boards. For straight DH, I prefered the Demonseed. That thing was gnarly. Stable as hell, felt great, nice to maneuver. If you're gonna be devoting this board to DH, then I would pick the Demonseed.
It is, however, very big and heavy...which I did not prefer for freeride applications even though it performs great for that as well.

in my opinion a 34" wheelbase is too big for anything other than a straight bomb.

I will be using it only for DH i guess, 'cause for freeriding, i got my FSM to handle that.
Size isn't really much of an issue for me, and the double drop of the Demonseed seems really interesting. I'll consider. But i'll try it first though.

the demonseed makes the hellcat feel more like a kitten, its huge, low, and stable. if youre big and into drifts youll love it. cant say anything about the drop speed though.

I know what you mean, I assumed so too before I rode one. But the Demonseed was surprisingly good for freeride. Admittedly I did sell it because of the size and went for a Nemesis instead. But I kinda miss it. I really miss it actually. Such a legit board.

well any double drop would be a reat free ride, but still 34" wheelbase is big

i disagree. i feel that the lower drop on the demon seed feels too awkward.

It feels awesome to me. Lower the better, IMO. Hence me dropping thru my Nemmy.

Re: Hellcat vs. Drop Speed vs. Demonseed
Ive ridden all of them, I made this same decision but i wasn't looking at the Demonseed it is just way to long for me. I choose the Drop Speed for 2 reasons, it cost less, and i hated the W concave on the Hellcat, it was too mellow between the hump in the middle and the edge for how high the W was in the middle, and on the edges it went crazy.
The Drop speed does have a W but it is much more comfortable, i also liked the length on the Drop speed better, being only 5ft 8in tall i could get into a comfortable position and transfer between standup slides, to hands down slides, to carving, and to pushing with very little effort or movement. The hellcat required me to move my feet out slightly to do standup slides.
