Overall Ride and Performance
The BC Eel is a super lightweight, lively deck that provides an energetic ride for almost any genre of riding. Although the Eel is freeride oriented with a large, wide platform with substantial concave, I have failed to find style of riding that the Eel can’t conform to. Both the drop-through truck pattern and the perfect amount of concave allows for medium down hill (~40-45 mph) and smooth, locked in slides. However, the flex, ample footspace and flared nose and tail allow for great carving, dancing and technical tricks. Since I have gotten my Eel, the rest of my quiver has been easy to neglect (check the classifieds for my old dancer, speedboard, carver and slider).
Flex
The BC Eel comes in 2 flex options: the fat free for riders weighing approximately 150 pounds, and the boss level for riders exceeding 170 pounds. The beauty of BC lies in their impeccable customer service and flexible customization options, so if you’re looking for a flex that doesn’t match these specifications, the BC team can most likely work with you to zero in on the exact flex you desire. The Eel is also pressed with mild camber to account for flex and maintain rebound potential. I weigh a meager 135 pounds and the Eel has a subtle yet snappy flex that is truly felt when carving and pumping but seems to disappear when freeriding and downhilling. It’s hard to find a board with deep concave and lively flex like that of a BC Eel.
Platform and Nose
The BC Eel fulfills the perfect equilibrium of concave: enough to keep your feet locked in for sliding and speeding, but not so much that it hinders pushing, dancing or tech tricks. The platform of the eel provides generous space for dancing and accommodates a wide stance such as my own. The nose and tail offer excellent leverage for shuvits, big spins, manuals, G-Turns and whatever else you’re ready to learn. I struggled with big spins on my previous board for hours and within 15 minutes of trying them on the Eel I got rapidly more consistent.
Shape
The BC Eel’s shape lends itself perfectly to its versatility. The cutouts allow complete peace of mind against wheel bite and are great for hard carving, dancing etc.
Graphics
We all know that graphics don’t make the board but it’s still fun to have an aesthetically pleasing design on your board. BC is great because you can upload an image to them and they can put it on a board for you. Just imagine being able to get anything you want on the bottom of your board. The guys at BC have a lot of experience with graphic design and they will work with you to perfect your graphic. When I sent them a simple graphic, they responded with an amazing version including my name, signature and cool background. If you’d rather not wait, the Eel has 2 standard graphics and is also available in the always classy natural bamboo.
How is the size of the nose and tail, are they large enought for comfortable tricks like shuv its and what not?

haha your thesis structure is lacking chris, and goldner would have a fit with all your passive voice and other assorted gramatical errors. And also, you have to fill me in on that DH session you had on it becasue i could have sworn i would have been there for it

A review is fact based, not opinion based hence the "lacking" "thesis structure". I use 2 instances of passive voice that I feel augmented comprehension and captured what I was attempting to convey more accurately. I implore you to find a gramatical error (I love [B]trying[B] to sound smart)...Mr. Goldner would still give me a B though. Why would you swear you would be there for it considering we skate together maybe once every 2-3 weeks.
Nice to see ur giving the thesaurus some healthy use chris, haha but speaking intelligently doesnt translate to intelligence. But ya what i was getting at with the DH session is that it never happened. 35 mph down ur road isnt a mild DH session at 40-45 mph, good try tho, im sure it fooled some readers.

I never claimed that I went 45 but the hill I did is high 30s-Low 40s and it felt completely stable and I have very little DH experience so any average speedboarder could easily handle 40-45.

You'll probably have a hard time finding a complete for less than 200, but they do exist... I've been searching as well. This review was written from the perspective the only the deck was new, hence the low price.
What I've found is that you're really looking at a few items:
Decks
Trucks
Wheels
Bearings
Misc(bearings & mounting gear)
Trucks, wheels, bearings, and misc stuff are all fairly consistent in price but deals can be had if searched for. I found a pair of Revenge trucks for under 25 at Paragon Sports. They COULD be misrepresenting the price because they also have Original Trucks and the price for those is per truck, not for the pair, but I haven't actually ordered it yet.
As for decks, you can find quite a few good deals:
Nelson Longboards has a couple decks for under 100. Their completes are just over 200.
They're located here: Nelson Longboards - News
BC Longboards also has quite a few other decks. The BC Eel complete is 200, but that's quite a steal! BCLONGBOARDS
The Longboard Store brand longboards are also ~200 for a complete and <100 for the decks: TLS - The Longboard Store
Subsonic has quite a few boards in this price range with customization options like drop through, non drop through for the same deck style. Motion Board Shop really likes their DH models: Subsonic Skateboard Company
Surprisingly, the Landyachtz boards are well priced. I was looking at the Drop Carve which the deck is about 130 and the complete is about 240. Landyachtz -
**On a side note, here, the Apex 37 will run you about 240 if you upgrade the wheels and the Apex 34 will run you the same if you upgrade the trucks. I'm wondering what all the fuss is about for the Apex's. It's not like I wasn't stoked on them but jeez..
As for the review itself, honestly, I couldn't believe this was written by a teenager. It was very well written and I know folks my age who couldn't write anywhere near as well and they get paid to write. Well, technical writing and writing a review are different, but it was very, very well presented. Good job! (you receive an A, in my book)
As for a conclusion about boards, I'd say keep your eyes peeled for deals. Daddies Longboard Shop runs deals on wheels/bearings weekly, so check them out. You may have to eat it on Trucks & bushings though. I did see a set of Paris 180's for ~24 bucks at BC Surf Shop, but they could be a per truck pricing. At any rate, do your searching and if you're patient, you'll find what you want for the price you want. Everyone does sales sometime!
BC seems like a super legit company, but what killed the deal for me is that they didnt offer free shipping so it costed me another 15 bucks for shipping. So it came out to like.. 215?
because they are a smaller dealer they pretty much always sell at the best price (a plus) however when sites have sales on dervishes fro the same same price the comparison shopper sees the price drop and etc.
anyways I have emailed bryant asking about custom designs etc, seemed like a nice guy quick response.
I would definetly buy from these if you are looking for custom graphics which almost no one offers (esp for free!) since i wasnt I just went for a dervish on sale for 230 (no tax no shipping).
ps. i think BC longboards would explode if they went viral the way original and loaded did, they only have like 2 videos on youtube that I could find, and loaded and original seem to have become so big because of noobies learning about it off youtube.

So lemme get this straight... You're gonna sweat BC for 15 bucks shipping and handling even though you get a total custom board, but you'd pay and extra 30 bucks to have the same board everyone and their pet flea is running? I'm sorry, I'm sure the Dervish is an awesome board and given it normally runs about 300, you got it for a steal, but REALLY?
