My first board, any advice? Landyachtz wedgeflex vs. Sector 9 Waimea?
Hey, I'm new here and looking at getting my first board. I really haven't done much boarding, just messing around on my ex-boyfriends board. I really enjoyed it and would like to get a board of my own. I've been doing some research and looking around at boards online and have come to two that I like a lot. One is the Sector 9 Waimea Bamboo and another is the Landyachtz Wedgeflex Bamboo. I really like the Wedgeflex but don't know if I can justify the price. Any suggestions or comments would be great.

Welcome to the fish!
The pintail is a classic and functional shape. Good call on the deck style.
What is your budget?
Any shipping concerns? are you located out of the states?

Thank you, I'm in MI. I don't really have any shipping concerns, should I? The top end of my budget is 200. But I'd rather stay lower if the comparison is not that different.

For your first board, you may want to think of what your style of riding you are going to do. Do you want someting for carving and down hills, get something with a lot of flex such as bamboo or fiberglass. If you want something with more of a surf board feel that is better for walking up and down and cruising, get a hard wood deck. I personally like longboards from kahuna and arbor. I have a mix of boards, arbor bamboo carver pintail, kahuna neo fish, arbor sizzler, and a custom hardwood longboard. I like pintails with a lot of flex, more comfortable ride, sharper turns, lighter, and more durable. Of course hardwoods work well for cruising and walking up and down the board.

The Neo Fish looks promising, what is the flex like for you? your weight?

The flex on the neo fish is geat, only sags about 1 or 2 inches when you stand in the middle unless you bounce on it and I am 6ft with an average build, probably somewhere around 190 to 200 lbs. It is great for carving and is one smooth ride, not as smooth as my arbor bamboo pintail but it has tight turning. I would highly recomend the neo fish, good strong deck, nice wheels, high quality trucks, and great control.

I want to do all around riding, its pretty flat where I live and not many hills, but I plan on moving out to CA in a few years for graduate school.
I want a good all-around board that I can carve and cruise on. Thank you for all the info on different flexs!

Thanks, I'll have to check that board out.

I'll take a look at those boards.

Don't know much about the Marlin, but IT IS from the same company as the Eel, so that's definitely a good company to buy from.
Don't forget the Swordfish either!
Ask me about my Holesom.

Re: My first board, any advice? Landyachtz wedgeflex vs. Sector 9 Waimea?
Hi guys, its my first time on the fish....
I have a sec 9 waimea, and i love it...it is my everyday board...
I think its stylish, and rides great...I did change the bearings to bones reds..And also changed the wheels to abec11 70's flash back's (70mm 78a).. Came with gullwing charger trucks...
I love to carve with it, and i bomb small hills also (getting too old for big ones)..
I dont like when people bash sec 9, or call them noob boards..( I started skating in 1977 )
I would recomend to get somthing you think looks good, get somthing that feels good, and get somthing that performs well...
