apex 37
hey im a complete noob.. got really interested in longboarding just recently have no knowledge of boards and need your guys help.
i want to get an apex 37 as my first board.. im typically going to be cruising mostly flat ground and some minor hills and i want to carve and all that good stuff.
problem is im going to buy the board online, but i have no knowledge of the options it states for customizing it.. for example the bearings or the wheels or everything actually
seeing alot of the stuff relys on your physique, im 5'4 or 5'5 and about 140
sorry if this is a hassle to post this but thanks in advance from your future longboarding cruisah

How much are you going to carve? The Original trucks are turny as hell, might not be the best choice for a first truck, but if you want something with a completely different feel than everything else, I say go for it, I love mine.

Re: apex 37
I'm not totally for calling ha but will do.. I just like to know stuff I'm buying like going into the store and just buying things i know about and asking the sales person as a last resort
well I guess I stated the question wrong and the new question is the difference between different trucks, wheels, and bearings? Like sizes and differences they have? thanks again greatly appreciated

Re: apex 37
bigger trucks means slightly more stability and slightly less turning
for the 37, the s8's are good. you dont really want to go bigger or smaller.
might as well get the bearing upgrade, its like $8 or something?
wheels would be the priciest upgrade. the ones it comes with are ok, but the upgrades you can get are obviously better. i think the stock ones come in at 78a, which is fine. if you've got the money go for better wheels. they have info on all the different brands on their site.

Re: apex 37
go to legendarylongboards.com and talk to Pimm, subsonicskateboards.com, or PM Rus on the Soda Factory thread (in the board/wheel company section towards the bottom). Those guys are allsupremely awsome custom builders, and can hook you with eaxctly what you want.

Re: apex 37
i freakin love this board, i ride it just about everyday, i'd go with the s8's, which i think is the stock size, i'm 220 and definatley wouldn't want anything bigger. As far as bearings, the stock ones sucked, and i swapped them instantly with some bones swiss bearings, so i would definately upgrade or just plan on putting in some better bearings. as for wheels, my fav's for this board are abec 11 flashbacks, and zigzags. I like a grippy wheel, that'll slightly slide out when i want it to. The only drawback to this board, is the fact, that you have to clean and relube the trucks very often, i ride this board daily and pretty much spend about 30 min every sunday, cleaning the trucks. But man, that first skate right after a fresh lube job, is pure butter. The ride itself can get a pretty wobbly at 25-30, but under that speed, i've never ridden a funner, looser more carvy board.

Re: apex 37
I have an Apex37, and I'd go with the S8 trucks. I have S6, S8, and S10 trucks here, and I wouldn't want the S10 on my Apex- too wide. S6 would't fit the cutouts properly, so they're out automatically.
Definitely upgrade the wheels; the stock Kryptos stink.

Re: apex 37
I have the apex, with s8's and lime zigs. love the thing. its lower than my friends dervish with randalls, and pumping on this thing is so fun.
It takes some getting used to, its ALOT more sensitive than other decks. I have problems pushing if my foot isnt located in the exact center of the deck lined perfectly straight. and the turning takes some getting used to.
Call up Original, Joel or Brad are really cool guys, Brad one of the Co-owners even suggested that if I dont like turning that I look into other companies. That kind of honesty and integrity really intrigued me, so I picked one up immediately of course. Best decision ever

Problems? I LOVE the fact that I can carve on my Apex with one foot while pushing with the other!
No joke, though, I use mine mostly for commuting, and being able to turn around people while keeping up the pace I need to get to class on time is a really great feature in my opinion. I've got the black springs in my trucks, and I probably won't go with the white or reds unless I start doing more speed stuff.

Re: apex 37
Don't mean to hi-jack the thread but does anyone know the WB difference between the 34 and the 37? Also is the width still 8.75'' for both?

Re: apex 37
s.h.i.t., has anyone ever fixed that damn rattle that comes from the trucks when you ride on ANYTHING besides super smooth road? i find that unless im riding a path thats as smooth as a parking garage, ANYTHING kind of street road will make my board rattle like a god damn bastard. Anyone got any suggestions to fixing it?

Things to try:
Replace the big metal washers with nylon ones. Adjust the trucks tight enough that they don't flop around when you shake the board. Make sure all your mounting hardware is fully tight. Use a thin rubber riser if you're currently running with no riser at all. Make sure it's not the bearing spacers rattling instead of the trucks.

Re: apex 37
and make sure you take apart the trucks to grease up that cam once every few weeks! A little lithium grease goes a long way

Re: apex 37
I have an Apex 37, S8 trucks with Lime Zigzags. Can't say enough good thins about the board. Absolutely love it.
I was riding a Sector 9 beginner board after an impulsive buy. Learned how to longboard a bit. Then ordered the Apex after extensive research and ended up eating it on my first try. The board is ridiculously flexy and surfy! But by god once you get the hang of it there is NO going back on Original trucks/boards. Superb fun and so chill for cruising. Love the pop you get from pushing you really get the feel of the road.
