Loaded Dervish or Apex 37 ???
They look pretty much the same...
Has anybody tried both??
Could tell the difference?
Cheers!

Re: Loaded Dervish or Apex 37 ???
The Apex 37 board is more like the Loaded Vanguard than the Dervish. The Apex is an undermount popsicle stick like the Vanguard. The Dervish is a drop through, which makes it lower than the Apex and limits you to using a handfull of trucks since the trucks need to fit into the drop through mount.
Ride on these boards will be quite different. The Dervish will be more stable but less manueverable. The Apex comes with Original trucks (which will not work on a drop through), which give it a very surfy ride and a really tight turning radius.
Both are good boards. Depends what type of riding you want to do. The Apex pumps better and carves tighter. The Dervish is more stable for downhill and better for dancing.

Re: Loaded Dervish or Apex 37 ???
Biggest difference will be the ride. With Original S8's that will come on the Apex 37, the ride will be insane. These trucks carve like crazy which will take some getting used to, but will be well worth it because it is such a fun board to ride.
The Dervish will give you more options on trucks but won't carve as well as the Apex 37, I've found that it is easier cross stepping or dancing on a Dervish because it is more stable.
That is not to say you can't on an Apex 37. Again, it will take some getting used to. One thing you can do as well, is when ordering your Apex 37, ask the folks at Original to package your trucks with a red or white spring. These springs are stiffer than the stock springs which will help stabalize the board.
As for the height, although the Apex is not a dropthrough, it is still on the same level or lower than a Dervish. I will just say they are equal, but my Apex can go almost all the way under a Dervish.
One other difference is the length, the Dervish is a 42 inch board I believe and the Apex is a 37...
I give 2 thumbs up to both boards, but I prefer my Apex... take the info into consideration, do some searches, and make a decision... have fun with whatever you pick...

Re: Loaded Dervish or Apex 37 ???
If you want tricks and standard trucks, go with the Dervish or BC Eel.
Original trucks are complicated. I'm not a fan of torsional trucks. If you want to carve like a king, get one of these.
Carveboard USA - Home of the Original Carveboards

It's not for hills... but it is the best carving board I've ridden. You can make ultra sharp 90* turns. (not like conventional reverse KP trucks). You can make a U-turn within one parking space.

Re: Loaded Dervish or Apex 37 ???
The apex is as low if not lower than the dervish. And I can pull a U turn within one parking space on my Apex.
I have ridden both, and after riding my original, I feel restricted on a dervish. Just my .02, not all that experienced but Id pick an Apex every time

Re: Loaded Dervish or Apex 37 ???
I never tried a side-by-side comparison between the two, but even with Original trucks being shorter than conventional trucks, I would think a drop through would not be taller. I find it interesting. Are you comparing setups with the same size wheel? If the Apex is shorter with smaller wheels you could always run a Dervish with the same size wheels.
Also, the comment on the Dervish giving you more options on trucks seems to be opposite. That may be true if you only consider buying a complete, but if you buy an Apex deck only, you can mount any truck that is made. Whereas on a Dervish, you are restricted to trucks that fit the drop through mount.

Re: Loaded Dervish or Apex 37 ???
The design of original trucks and the boards puts the end of the kingpin into the board. the board is shallowed out to allow this. and the trucks are lower.

Cool. I tried the Apex 37 once at Paragon Sports in NYC. I remember it being low but did not realize it was that low. I like Originals best as front trucks with conventional trucks in back. I have always compensated for the height difference by using risers in the front. To take advantage of the lowered height on the Apex 37, you would need Originals both front and back (or get used to a lopsided board).

Re: Loaded Dervish or Apex 37 ???
apex has slightly larger nose. Original trucks require more matinence and attention. Dervish can be just as carvy with the right setup.

It carves Really tight too, and it pumps like mad... but i have the feeling that its not so manueverable..maybe its me but it feels heavy.
Its really good to go down the hill and carve like mad.. Actually im very happy with it. However, i was thinking about getting in the future a different one to combine with my Mosquito. Something more playful. mmmh, dont think playful is the right word though..every board is playful ......
If you want something much lighter and nimble, check out the Apex 34. As popular as the Apex 37, but smaller and lighter. It's only 5 pounds completely set up. It's even easier to slide and flip than the 37. Great for campus commuting since it's a great board to carry-around. And with the S6 trucks and the smaller wheels it has more pop and more torque for quick turns/slalom.
If you wanna do hills though grab the 37. If you want more stability for the hills or more space to dance then try the Dervish. The Apex's will be cheaper though and well worth the Dervish and more.

Have you ridden all 3? If so, which one did you prefer? And for what reasons?

Re: Loaded Dervish or Apex 37 ???
Which of these three boards is best for long commuting, Apex 37, apex 34, or loaded dervish??
-
Re: Loaded Dervish or Apex 37 ???
Ive ridden both quite a bit, and they are very different boards.
I would say that apex 37 is better for commuting because pushing it just feels easier/lighter and you can turn it with 1 foot on the board while kicking alot easier than the dervish.
If your looking for a really lively fun ride, i would go with the apex carving down hill with that thing is a ton of fun.
If your looking for a *more* solid ride, sliding, dancing, tricks Id say go with the dervish.
I like sliding on the dervish (I can 180 on my dervish i cant come close to doing it on apex) but when your carving downhill on an apex the dervish doesnt compare.
edit: i personally would buy dervish everytime just because of the type of riding i like to do, but my buddies have apex so when i have the carving itch i can just borrow from them =]
