Vanguard, Pintail or Timeline?
Hey, after visiting a local board shop. I tried out few loaded boards including Vanguard, Dervish and Pintail. After looking at some boards, I found that the bigger boards will not be as usefull as the smaller boards for cruising/carving and commuting around the city and my campus. I'm 185/6'3 and vanguard flex 3 38'', pintail 35'' seemed like great boards for what i was looking for. I wanted to ask about the vanguard flex 3 and how will it hold up over time, and will it bottom out?
I'm also interested in Rayne Timeline which someone mentioned was a great commuter board. I never tried it but how is the flex on it compared to loaded boards. Also does this board wheel bite with paris 180s, 70mm otangs with minimal risers?
Also which rayne boards are flexible?
PS. i will be trying Paris 180s + Otang wheels for my first board. Oh also im a newb, i just know how to push, turn and foot break.
TIA

Re: Vanguard, Pintail or Timeline?
35" longboard larry salamander is worth a look
I have the current timeline it has a stiff flex that really works for you unlike many flexible decks
but if you wanted a timeline id recomend a landyatchz mummy cause its cheaper

how do u like ur timeline. ive looked into the mummy too (money isnt a big problem). I just wanted a good looking deck that will last me a long time and would be fun and functional. I guess one that i can grow into while doing different types of riding styles - commuting/carving/cruising and learning advanced stuff as sliding and etc.

Re: Vanguard, Pintail or Timeline?
The pintail is a good board, but if you want something you can learn on I would stick with a bigger board. Plus, IMO it feels better with 150s instead of 180s. The pintail is my favorite commuting board, though.

yeah thats why im kinda leaning towards a vanguard flex 3. I wish loaded made vanguard 38'' in flex 1 and 2. just having doubts on the flex 3 vanguard bottoming out over time under 180lbs of pressure.

Re: Vanguard, Pintail or Timeline?
They are all awesome carving/commuting board. The Timeline being 33" would be easier to carry, but with 180mm Paris, the wheels will probably stick out of the board, and your feet might hit it while pushing/foot breaking.
Personally, I'll want to try the Rayne Timeline, since it looks awesome, has a front loaded camber, and can make an awesome pumper.

The wheels don't stick out that much at all with RII 180s. You can ride your wheels inward just to make sure though. It's a very fun carver, especially with the front camber

can i run paris 180s on a loaded pintail? i wish i can try a timeline somewhere to feel the flex and weight, but i doubt i can find it around here. I stood on a pintail and it was pretty comfortable size.

Re: Vanguard, Pintail or Timeline?
I had the current Timeline and used it to commute. Then I sold it and got a FSMini, not saying it's a bad board though. I just wanted a relatively compact pusher board that can be used for free-riding and stuff around Chicago.
The Timeline is really carvy and can make some really sharp turns; makes my FSMini seem sluggish actually. Really light too, learned to pump on that board, easily. I wouldn't use Paris on this board though, I'd search around the forums and use Tracker RTS/X on that board, maybe possibly a Bennett front and Tracker back. Also wedging and de-wedging the front and back trucks will help it pump a lot better. This will make it more of a pumper set-up. I weigh about 145lbs, and I barely felt a flex.
The Carbon Mummy looks like a blast to ride too.

Paris 180s should have no issues with the pintail

I think you should be alright. An old friend was 230 pounds and he had a 42'' Flex 2 Vanguard. He has been riding it hard for 3 years and he hasn't had a problem with it yet.

Flex 2 would be better if you wanted a stiffer deck
Flex 3 would be better if you wanted a flexier deck
both will be alright with your weight

im actually leaning towards the pintail flex 1 or 2 now, since i live in NYC, during school year im on campus. and pintail makes a great commuter board. I also wanted to know if a stiffer pintail would be ok to start to learn how to slide, i know this sounds a bit ridiculous for a person 6'3 to slide on a 35 inch deck, but i was just wondering which trucks (180s or 150s) are better for learning how to slide?

Re: Vanguard, Pintail or Timeline?
yeah i think ive decided on the loaded pintail wiht 150s paris, otangs 4prez 80a and some abec 11 biltins, khiro soft shockpad. I will most likely buy it from DBS, does anyone know what type of hardware they use (khiro?). And does anyone know any coupon codes for them (besides the 5 dollar off one)?
