    Default Apex 34 review

I just received my Original Apex 34 today. And after riding it for about 2 hours, I have to say it is AMAZING! I own 2 other Original boards (Torpedo 40 and Derringer) and while they are great in their own right, the Apex is in a totally different class.

    Here is my setup:

    Apex 34 cruiserweight (I am 190#s)
Original S6 150mm trucks (black springs)
    Seismic Cambria 62mm 84a wheels

    Deck:

I am 6' 3" and the deck is just right for my regular stance, so I think most riders would be comfortable with it’s size. It has a touch of camber which helps the deck to snap back nicely when pumping/carving. It also has a nice amount of concave that keeps your feet locked in. Both the nose and the tail are very functional when it comes to nose/tail manuals and shuvits. The fact the board is so light (about 5lbs) makes all 3 of these tricks pretty easy. It has just the right amount of flex for me and I am right in the middle of the recommended weight for the cruiserweight.

    Trucks:

Original trucks are a love/hate type of truck. I think they are great. And even though I have other Originals, these perform totally different because there are no risers. This makes the board very stable. Even though the trucks are really “turny,” the wide platform and ride height make you feel like you are in total control at all times. Pushing is also much easier because the deck is so low to the ground.

    Wheels:

Even though the Cambrias are VERY grippy, I was able to do speed checks and standup 180s with ease, right out of the box. These wheels are a perfect combination with this board because you need grip to handle the sharp turns that Original trucks provide, but slide when you need them to due to the board’s low stance.

I would definitely recommend this board to anyone that is looking for a freestyle type board.

Any opinions on S6 vs. S8? I want a pair of S8s for my other decks, and figured I'd just get them on the Apex, but it comes stock with the shorter trucks so I'm not sure.

Do you think you could carve hard enough to slow you down on even steepest of roads? I'm not into bombing, but would love to carve down some super long hills without flying...

I actually have the Custom 45. Do you think those Monster S10's be anygood on it? Seems like they would get in the way...

There's a limit.. some hills are so steep that you'll slide on every carve if you try that.

    Board looks like a blast!

The S10's would probably be a little wide for the apex 34 IMO.

I think the S6's are perfect for the length of the 34. It is very quick but stable with the S6's. Hope this helps.

Sweet looking graphics. I have the Apex 37 and I wish they made the graphics more like the 34. Def looks like a fun little board, looks like a tun of fun for freestyle. It isn't personally my choice of ride because I like Longer boards but totally looks like a fun ride

I can't decide between the Apex 34 (S6 or 8 trucks) and Apex 37. I already have a Dervish and some 44" S9, so I'm leaning towards the 34, but the 37 could definitely be my staple.

I have ridden both. The 37(w/ S8s) has more flex and is more stable on hills(just slightly). The 34(w/ S6s) is more of a ripper. REALLY quick and nimble. I would imagine you might get the best of both worlds if you got the 34 w/ S8s!

Well your review did me in...I just ordered the same setup as you. I'm 6'2" 185ish so hearing some the same size and age really helped seal the deal. Don't need it at all but just had to have it...

If I don't like the off the wall, I'm gonna get this or the 37. Now i ride a 38" Ladera with 150 randals and 70mm flashbacks. Is there a big difference between the 34 with S6's or the 37with S8's? I'm 5'5'' and It's main purpose will be getting around and some chill carving and sliding. Nothing aggressive. I use my ladera for that.

    So what do you think?

how sharp do these originals actually turn? I have paris 150's and with my setup I can turn it around in just over 1 parking space, it seems pretty sharp to me. can they turn much sharper than that?

I can turn around in about 2/3 of a parking space on my Apex and Derringer.

so the only difference between the derringer and the 34 are the risers?
