    Default Indy's replacing kingpins

got a question regarding my indy's, maybe someone can point me in the right direction.

iv been trying to remove the kingpin and put in a grade 8, and preferably longer kingpin, since i like to ride em loose as a goose, but the nut is being held on the bolt by only 2-3 rotations. definitly not safe..

however it seems to be stuck. maybe im just mad or something, but i had it in a vice with a rubber mallet trying to bang it out but to no avail.

just wondering if theyre non removable or something,

and as a followup question. any recomendations regarding changing the bushings? im riding stock indy oranges.. i dont know the duro, but theyre pretty stiff for my weight (145)

    thanks guys

if they are indy stage 9 (the new kind), then you cant. they hace a very odd kingpin, but dont fret, its a grade 6, and pretty hard to break. ive been skating mine for a year and is still going good.

You can indeed knock them out. A few good taps with a hammer will knock them out. I replaced the kingpins in my indy 149's with Grind King kingpins... HOW?

I glued the nut into the baseplate with JB Weld metal epoxy (get it at an auto parts store or hardware store).

You could probably do the same with a grade 8 bolt. Not a bad idea, as I've already seen 3 Indy Stage 9 kingpins break! Not mine, thank goodness! (I do have the original kingpins that I knocked out, if anyone needs 'em...)

Yes, the stage 8 type come out easier than the stage 9 but they all come out. just gotta hit 'em harder. or you can use heat from a small torch or try spraying some PB Blaster in there. that stuff is magic.

i've converted stage 9s with an epoxy metal stuff too. it's basically like jb weld but it comes in a rolled shape like a twinkie and the filling is the activator so you just cut off a slice, mix the inside with the outside and stick it in around a nut in the bottom of the baseplate (take a kingpin, put two throwaway bushings on it, stick that from the top down into the baseplate and screw the bolt on and tighten it until the nut is tight and flush up to baseplate in that hole. that way you'll know it's in the right position. then put the instant metal stuff or the jbweld around it. in the morning, you can unscrew the kingpin bolt and the nut will stay where it belongs in the bottom of the baseplate and you can put your truck together with the grind king kingpins or the tracker ones (might be a little longer).
