Re: Indy DH plate
Ahhhh so much death to this thread!
So I messed with bushings a lot last night at my favorite parking garage while I waited for all the traffic to get out (oh the joys of having a parking garage attached to a theater on a college campus.) Here were my findings (I'm 160#.)
If you want a super precise and controlled setup with little rebound (read: not fun to some people), go with Bones Hardcore hard bottoms on top and a stim shape on bottom. I've tried JimZ barrels (hate the tops), yellow Pumpkins (thanks Greg!) and I'm trying to get some Elims to try. The JimZ barrels have the least amount of rebound but are still great in their own right, and I think the yellow Pumpkins feel the best out of those two. The main issue with having a 10º front is that running an 82.5A barrel is just WAY too soft for the front; it gets mad slop. I bet 85A JimZ barrels all around would be the best. When I used to run flat Indy front and dewedged Indy the white felt AWESOME up front. I really learned last night that the lower degree you go the harder bushing you have to go.
Onto what I'm running now. Double barrels are awesome. In the front I'm running a purple Sabre (88A) bottom with a purple Venom (87A) top with cupped washers all around and in the back I tried a green Venom (93A) and red Venom (90A) with just a flat washer on top because that's all I had. I'm going to try 90A/88A in the back with cupped washers and if that doesn't feel right I'm gonna go back to 93A/90A.
So, I guess what I found was there's nothing wrong with not having shittons of rebound, and that there's no shame in going to a harder duro, especially with a lower degree baseplate. Bushings are the greatest investment any skater can make.
