I'm impressed with how quickly this went from crack-pot idea to ghetto prototype, 'fish ingenuity strikes again.

Re: Indy DH plate
How is the recessed bushing feeling? I would assume it has more rebound and/or less lean? That is if the recess is flush against the bushing. Not sure how wide you made the hole.

Re: Indy DH plate
so streetheap, your going full out on those uhmv baseplates then?

It's an amber tracker superball there on the bottom, and it does feel like a cupped washer (it's a 1" diameter seat, so it sits very snug). It actually has a very nice, smooth lean (I weigh 220, BTW).

Me? No. Though it's not beyond the realm if someone else wants to do it.
Not sure of the long term effects on a UHMW plate, as I don't know how many of them there are out there.
Aluminum? Sure. Not me, but someone.

28" wheelbase in case nobody read my last post. I took it to 35-40ish this eve and felt pretty good. Probably would be better in the hands of someone who rides Indys for DH all the time, but it was cool. Very responsive. I footbraked and wiggled a little bit to check it out. The rear truck still leans like an Indy, too, so it doesn't feel weird or anything. I'm pretty impressed. Tomorrow I'm gonna throw on the leathers and do some harder turns.
Thanks everyone for paying attention and following this thread. Hope it works out.
? i mustve read this wrong.. i thought you said you took that exact setup (modded BP and all) up to 35-40ish

I think he thought that you meant going full out as in producing and selling the UHMW plate and not riding it on a full tilt DH run.

Yeah. That's what I thought. My bad. Still not "full out" yet. I was pretty much just doing sweepers on a fairly mellow run. I hope to check them out more tomorrow.

Re: Indy DH plate
that is so cool Street. Its cool to see them being protoed, and working. i am loving my Indy 215 on my Cindrich because they turn so deeply. i have them drop through flush mounted, because full drop is too low (my feet hit the ground around turns). having a stabilizing plate would make them a even better. go low, and then we can adjust to taste. Keep having fun figuring it out. you'll get there, and someone here will pick it up, and CNC it.

I hope so (about the CNC-ing of it ). I just think it's cool to take Indys really fast. Definitely my all-time favorite truck. My style simply isn't fit for taking them too fast in stock form around tight turns. I'm sure I could get used to it, but I've always been pretty sloppy and a little reckless when it comes to skate technique/balance, so I've never been as fast on Indys as I am on a lot of other trucks.
In other words, I can't take trucks that turn a bunch, throw on hard bushings, crank down my KP nut and fly. I've always been a leaner and fairly heavy-footed, so I need something a little slower.
Indys on a super long wheelbase isn't my cup of tea, either; the truck responds really quick, and then with a long wheelbase, I always feel like I'm weighted down or something. I like to keep them low too. Trucks setups that turn alot (Indys or Holeys) topmounted with too much riser just feels weird to me.
From what I've garnered so far with this little experiment, ideally I think this plate would do really well (for me) pos. wedged or no wedge topmounted on something with a 27-32" wheelbase and run with 70mm wheels or less for an intimate feel. A person could run a standard BP front, or whatever with wedges and desired feel based on personal taste, wheelbase. bushings, etc. But that's all just speculation so far. I'm looking to throw them on my Avenger next, front and rear and experiment with wedging.
So far, so good.
Oh yeah- looks like flannelman's little drawing turned out to be pretty accurate. Sweet.

Streetheap, Do you have any extra UHMW to sell? I'd like to try this for myself.

I got a couple of plastics guys here locally. Usually they just give me scraps for pucks and things of this nature. But I have ordered from here
McMaster-Carr
and they ship very quickly, and are about as inexpensive as you will find.
