holey trucks vs original trucks
hi,
i know there are 54165418295292886842168216 threads paris vs randall
but i didn't find a holey vs original thread
i'm looking for very carvy relaxing and surfy trucks. so what would be the best.
maybe summing up some pros cons
(it would be used to fit under a LBL komodo)
thx

Kinda an odd camparision...
Holeys(Made in China) are simular to a randal truck, ok for general light bombing, carving, cruiseing, not amazing for park, and not as flexible as a randal due to that fact that you can flip the hangers of a randal, if you flip a holey, there is no change.
Original trucks are what I consider a great carving truck...cruiseing, pumping...I would not use them at high speeds personaly(some have, I would never consider it)
Being that Randals have improved their QC, I would not by a holey over them anymore...
the Originals...they are hard to compare to much...
Biggest sugestion is try someones board that has them...
What is under the kamodo right now??

Re: holey trucks vs original trucks
Agreed, odd comparison. Holeys are a better all around truck than the Originals, Originals make a good cruising/carving/pumping truck for really big boards.

Re: holey trucks vs original trucks
the komodo is the board i'll most likely buy after the one i have now has reached its limits of entertainment/possibilities for me, so i can't say what i have now underneath it. but i do already own a set of randals under my current deck, and i find them not very carvy but rather twitchy. they turn very wel and in a tight radius when i want. but they don't really turn 'natural', you know like they don't turn in one big flow.
it's like comparing someone who's doing the robot (randal) and someone belly dancing (the smooth truck i want)
and another problem, not many people ride longboards in belgium that i know of, and the ones that i do see longboarding (mostly when i'm at the belgian coast in summer) all have s9 completes......
(and i prolly had wrong info on the holeys because i thought they were like originals. so what trucks are as smooth as originals)

Upgrade your bushing of the randals...
I have holey bushings in all my randals...the hourglass bottom bushing is great!

Re: holey trucks vs original trucks
I ride pretty much soley original for the simple reason of the smoothness in the carves. They are not as stable if you want to do board walking; and though it is possible some tricks are extremely touchy.
You can take them up to a fair speed if you have white springs, but the black springs are twitchy! (just really touchy)
Originals; either you love them.. or hate them. I personally love them.
I ride them on an Original board Path 37.. and on a sz 60" board.. either way it is wicked fun.
There is a natural return to center; which some people don't like.. but I quite enjoy. It isn't a hard lock to center either; and depending on how you have it outfittd it isn't really signficant.
They will take some adjustment if you are habituated to bushing based trucks. When my friend first got his Apex 37 with black springs is regarded it as unrideable for the first month until he got white springs (which original failed to send).. he did adapt and is able to confidently ride on the blacks now.
Other notable downfalls of Original is they do some with some maintenance.. their Quality Control has not been great as of late.. and they are extremely busy which has had a negative affect on their customer service.
None of these reasons could convince me to stop riding Originals currently; although I think there is talk of SZ coming out with a CNC truck?... And I'll be snagging that .. hopefully as a replacement to my Originals.. as I do feel there is room for improvement.. and Wayne has the vision and drive to create a truck that meets all my dreams.

Re: holey trucks vs original trucks
huge fan of the Carver c7 (see my signature as I have several boards setup with them)
not sure about them on a komodo...not a good choice for that board...best with a more traditional shaped board...with a tail.

why wouldn't carvers be good under a komodo?
so now i think i have three options if i'm right.
seismic, original, carver. (i only found carvers of 165mm in all the stores i can buy from, maybe a what longer trucks has more of the feel i'm looking for)

Re: holey trucks vs original trucks
You may also want to take a look at Revenge trucks. They have a really smooth turn and might do well on the flexible komodo.

Re: holey trucks vs original trucks
The Carver system has a front truck called the C7

It pivots also from side to side, the rear truck is based on a Wedged Indy...so the tail tracks normal, but the front it looser, alowing you to slash/pivot of the rear...it pumps like a dream, I use them in parks and small hills...fun stuff! but the serously present a wheel bite issue...the cutouts of the komodo might not line up, and using 65mm wheel on a board like that would not be much fun...

Re: holey trucks vs original trucks
ok, thx.
so that leaves me with originals and seismics
and revenge trucks don't have different bushings i think. so might not be like i want. and they are very tall
oh, yes i found something else very interesting... http://www.sickboards.nl/catalog/pro...0a8c4679ec25e1

Re: holey trucks vs original trucks
Ive ridden Orginal Trucks one year, after that i switched to holeys. The orginal trucks carve only minimal thighter than holeys, but have big design flaws. After one year of use they have a lot of play in the middle and gives a very unsure feeling. The bending of the locking nut begins after 3 month of mild low speed carving. Pumping will kill the truck fast. This product is not yet consumer ready, dont buy it if you dont like beta products. The holeys carve so much better and alot more fluid, to the progressive rebound of the bushings you can really jump at speed in a carve and slow down without sliding. When you tried holeys you will never go back to orginals. Orginals are not worth the money but to the hype you can sold them for the half price after a year, but in reality its trash. The holeys have a minimal design flaw, the bushing cup will scratch the hanger, but its more a cosmetical problem. Get holeys or paris, thank me later.
Edit: Seismic trucks have even with white springs near no board lean, spring change is pure pain, they are loud and carve not half as thight as holeys - turning radius is over 8 foot on a 3 foot board.

I agree. Holey Hourglass bushings are the way to go.
Holeys trucks are also a much better choice than Originals IMO, and I would get Originals over Seismic Trucks any day if you are between the two.

@inluvwithsara
when you flip the cup or use a flat washer you kill the rebound holeys known for. Its only cosmetical, there is not much force, only scratches on the beautiful hanger.
