I run reflex barrels in my Randals. Also, assuming you don't weigh 200lb's, I would also suggest you bump down the duro's of your bushings. To give you a reference point, I have 85a Venom elim bottoms and a lime barrel top on my Switch and am 120lb's.

Re: Bushings. Different types and how to set them up.
Can anyone help me out with a starting point for my bushings? I don't exactly have a lot of money, so I can't go and invest in a whole bunch of bushings to experiment.
This will be for a DH setup with 42* Randals, and I weigh 140.
I was thinking Venoms with purple barrels (87a) bottom and yellow barrels (85a) top, or maybe Sabre purps on bottom.
I know it all comes down to preference, but I'd like a good starting point where I can gauge what I like/don't like about them, but still be able to enjoy using them until I can get some new ones.

That sounds like a good place to start. If possible, consider a lime or orange Reflex barrel top as well. Or some Venom's in that range. I've found the happy medium with Randals is to run a barrel top, stim shaped bottom.

Lemon Reflexes are pretty soft, I love them for my pumping
and slalom setups, but I wouldn't recommend them as a
high speed carving rig, unless you like it really squirelly..

I actually have reflexes right now but they feel weird tho like they feel different on my grizzlies. compared to my venom barrels at the same duro. they feel harder. and they feel extremely tight on the bushing seat on my grizzlies. is it just me or reflexes don't actually fit right on grizzlies ( newer version)

Re: Bushings. Different types and how to set them up.
This is an odd question, but whenever you buy bushings, like venom super carves, do you buy a bushing like that based on your weight or based on how carvy or how much turn you want in them? Like, i'm 165pounds, would there be an issue if I bought the softest bushing because I want super carvy bushings or what that be a problem because they wouldn't work with how much I weight or what not?
Do you get what i'm saying? it's sort of an odd question. Or, do you when you buy them is it sort of a mix between how much you weight and also how much turn and what not you want?

i think I get what you're saying. It's a like a little bit of both. Cos when I buy bushing I determine it with my weight and also how much I want to turn and what not. I have all the duros of super carves and I usually use the yellow and blue combo when I just want to cruse around and carve on a hill but when I sorta free ride I use a red and blue combo.
I don't know if that makes any sense at all bt yeah that's how I buy my bushings.
How "carvy" the bushings will be depends on your weight. The softest ones would probly be too much. But I don't know. That's my 2cents.

That's the answer.

its preference mixed with the maximum load capacity of the bushing. if you overload the bushing and get wheelbite, then move onto a harder duro until you find the softness you like that does not bite when you turn. you are 165, so i say check out something in the mid 80a duro, say an 85a venom standard pack.

ive got an arbor pocket rocket setup with stock gullwing alpine trucks and bushings, im going to upgrade the bushings and i mainly want it for a really really carvy pumpy ride that is lots of fun, almost like a slalom setup, should i be going cones or eliminators or barrels, i tried to get an understanding but they all seem kind of good :S
thanks for good thread

barrels n cones. you will get the most lean and the best rebound with these. you could even do both barrels for a good lean and a great rebound.
elims will be very restrictive and wont yield the same turning results as a cone or barrel. but they will rebound nicely.

You need a bigger one. 2.75 should be good.
