Newbie: best all-around trucks and bushings?
i've been skating for about 2 months now and one of the Gullwing Mission 1 trucks on my S9 Bintang broke yesterday (the part that goes into the pivot cup snapped right off). Instead of replacing it with another mission 1 (i'd rather not go through that again), what would be the best truck and/or bushing combo to put in that's affordable and meant for cruising around campus and some downhill action?

Re: Newbie: best all-around trucks and bushings?
I'd go with Randall RII 180s in whatever finish butters your biscuit, run the stock bushings for the next few months then maybe swap them out for Sabres or Venoms.

Re: Newbie: best all-around trucks and bushings?
Agreed on the Randals. If you don't want to get too technical into bushings (what your weight is, what kind of riding you'll be doing, etc.), I'd say just stick with the stock red bushings until you get more comfortable cruising and carving. Then you can move on to bushings like Reflex, Sabre, and Venom/Paris (same formula, different colors).

50 degree Randal RII's - the standard by which all longboard trucks are judged - plus they have tons of options and individual replacement parts.

Re: Newbie: best all-around trucks and bushings?
thanks for the advice so far. To clarify, I weigh around 190, and i use the board to cruise around for the most part, and sometimes for DH, but nothing that would get up past about 25 mph. I'm still torn between the paris 180's and the randal RII 180's, not too sure what the differences are. As for bushings, from what I've seen i'd use cones, not barrels, and some kind of combo like the one just mentioned but with the venom standard pack.

Re: Newbie: best all-around trucks and bushings?
Randal 150mm 50 degree, Sabre 88a barrel bottom 86a cone top (you will need at least 2.75" kingpins) www.milehighskates.com sells all this stuff.

the trucks i have now are only 8.375 inches, which is a decent amount narrower than the 180mm's...is that bad?
and do i really need to get new kingpins? those are expensive. i'm only trying to spent 50 or so on trucks and bearings.

Kingpins are like a dollar at Ace Hardware.

Re: Newbie: best all-around trucks and bushings?
The stock bushings in Randals and Paris trucks are very good, I wouldn't even worry about the bushings and kingpins until you have ridden the trucks stock, you might be tickled pink as they are.

Kingpins are 95 cents at MHS. The only reason you need longer kingpins is if you want to run double barrels or tall cones.
After looking the Bintang up I see that it is 8.5 inches wide, so 150mm randals would probably be a better choice.
Normally I try to get whatever truck width will make the outside of the wheels close to flush with the edge of my deck. 180mm is good for 10" wide boards and 150mm is good for 8.5" wide boards. You can break this rule if you want though, plenty of people do since narrower trucks are typically more responsive (fun) and wider trucks typically feel more stable (only fun at high speeds). Wider trucks also make it easier to get wheelbite unless they are wide enough for your wheels to be completely outside the deck in which case it is impossible to get wheelbite, but 180mm on an 8.5" deck will not achieve this.

Randals also come in 125mm and 150mm sizes. I'm not sure which is more appropriate off the top of my head.
As far as a difference between Randals and Paris, Paris trucks have a more restrictive bushing seat. Randals like to turn more. All the geometry is essentially the same, save for Paris being set to have a minimally tighter wheelbase (I think it comes out to like -0.5 inch)

Re: Newbie: best all-around trucks and bushings?
hmmmm. guess i got the kingpin thing wrong. botofusup might be right, think i'll just see how i like the randal RII 150 bushings (thanks for the advice on switching to 150mm, down&dirty).
and i know this is alot of questions coming form me but there's one last one. will i be able to use the stock S9 angled risers with the RII's? and any advice on removing the trucks/wheels etc.? Thanks everyone.
