I am sorry that you were wrong and got corrected. I apologize that you thought you were right and that you thought you knew more about these trucks than you really did. I am really sorry that the truck companies did not design their trucks to match what you said.
please for give me?

I got Independent 169s and they are regular trucks, not randal like hangars so I don't think i can just flip the hangar like that.
Put up some pictures.

Re: Bear Grizzly 184mm or Randal 180mm?
Both are good trucks, but I'm a Bear girl myself. Trade out those pumpkin bushings for some venom or Khiro barrels and you can make me purr.
Okay, that's a bit much.
Seriously though, with the exception of the bushings, I love Bears. They're easy to work with and oh so versatile.
But it really is preference. I have a friend that can't stand Bears.
As far as strength, I don't think you really have to worry. They can take a reasonable amount of abuse IME

I have both. Randalls are far far superior in every aspect, no contest.

Re: Bear Grizzly 184mm or Randal 180mm?
Can someone here explain to me how flipping a Bear hanger changes the angle of the truck? I've never understood that.
It makes as much sense as flipping an Indy hanger. I tried it with my 215's, and all they did was flop around when I mounted them.

Re: Bear Grizzly 184mm or Randal 180mm?
Bears have a lot of lean for a 50+ degree truck and bustins are notorious for bite, go for randals.

You can only "flip" reverse kingpins and it doesn't change baseplate angle, it changes offset and therefor effective pivot angle. IME flipped trucks have a larger dead spot at center then the truck would normally have and therefor I do not recommend it, especially on topmounts as it increases the chance of wheelbite and I REALLY HATE wheelbite.

Bear and Randall hangers are cast with the bushing seat out of line with the pivot point. If you like it may be easier to picture it as recessed on one side and proud on the other. Unflipped the bottom bushing sits on the unrecessed side of the hanger thus actually increasing the angle that the hanger pivots through, flipped the opposite is true, so it decreases the angle. With bears it 5 degrees and randals it's 3 degrees + or -.
You can see it best if you look at a Bear truck and how the hanger sits on the bushing with the king pin nut slackened off so the bushing isn't compressed. With the hanger unflipped there will be a gap between the bottom bushing and the bushing seat, where the bushing seat is next to the axel. You can see it with a Randall truck as well, but it's not as obvious because of the smaller differential, 3 degrees rather than 5.
So a 52 deg bear truck unflipped id actually 57 degrees, and flipped is 47 degrees.
A 50 deg Randall truck is 53 and 47 degrees.
Flipping the hanger also affects other handling characteristics, but mainly just makes things more stable, but with less grip, and less return to centre force.
There are pictures on the FAQ section of the randall website.
Hope this helps.
Just get a truck and look closely, I'm sure you'll figure it out.
