Retarded Bear Baseplate help
Hey guys, I have absolutely no experience with Bear Grizzlys. I had a couple sets a lonng time ago and never messed with them much. I now have a set that I'd like to use with Zealous Hangers. Has anyone had success hammering out the kingpins? I have smashed out kingpins on a ton of different trucks and these suckers aren't budging. I can't use these hangers with these plates without removing the pins because of the geometry. What's the deal?
Thanks.

Re: Retarded Bear Baseplate help
I have heard that you can remove the kingpin the new bear baseplates, but I tried getting my brothers out and didnt have much luck with a rubber mallet. I didnt want to hit it TOO hard, but maybe it just needed that extra muscle I was holding back.
You should be able to put the hangers on and then put the pivot in I think. Im pretty sure thats how my buddy does it since he top mounts his zealous with the kingpin flipped, and I know he doesnt remove his trucks everytime he changes bushings.

Re: Retarded Bear Baseplate help
Funny, mine came out easy.
Spray some WD-40 where the kp is and then try? (Dry it off afer so your bushings don't get destroyed)

Re: Retarded Bear Baseplate help
zealous's have an adustable pivot, right? Could you put the truck on the axle, position it, and then screw in the pivot? It's a stretch but the only idea I have.
I like Soda Factory
I hate the verb "freeride".

Re: Retarded Bear Baseplate help
Zealous are adjustable pivot , but on the Bear plates they are adjusted ALL the way in, so you aren't gaining any room.. (if that makes sense) abd also, being a cnc'd truck, really require a longer (preferably grade 8) to accomodate the thickness and to ensure strength.

Re: Retarded Bear Baseplate help
time to smack a bitch? don't use WD40. motor oil works better, and a framing hammer. put a nut on the kink pin to protect it. then smack that bitch back where she belongs

tap lightly on the baseplate... (don't want to crack it)... where the kingpin is. then use your beefy muscles to beat that bitch like the old days when it was legal

jar all you gotta do is smash the **** out of it
i know thats what i had to do for my friends bears, we smashed the hell out of it with a wrench and a parking block, took about 20 minutes but it came out. we were out doin a pre-sesh equipment check. You're also gonna have to gind/sand down the inside of the baseplate if you're gonna put a different kp in, cause the stock bear kp and bp have (i guess) teeth that lock em in place with eachother.

heat the aluminium with a hair dryer for a minute. don't want to heat the kingpin, just the aluminum part. if the kingpin/hole has a spline its in there really tight. don't think i'll be getting any more bear trucks because of this. have them on my evo and hope not to have this problem
