randal red bushings are 92a...even bigger guys dont need to go harder than that.

Yeah again, I just tightened them so that the ride would feel a bit more stable. I'm getting mixed messages though - someone said I should buy a bigger washer, but the rest of you are saying that I shouldn't be tightening them this much?? I'm 175lbs btw

Yeah, that's what it's called. Turning just felt way loose - a normal turn would get me within inches of the ground and I was sure if I pumped it hard enough I could've gotten railbite. So, I tightened it until it felt stable.
The interesting thing is it still turns sharper then my old sector 9 - even when I rode it around at the tightness that was squishing up the bushings. This makes me think that maybe the guy who said I need bigger washers was right? But it doesn't seem like randal would include washers that don't work well with their stock bushings....

Re: HELP!! Randal 180 truck assembly
are you actually hitting the edge of the deck on the ground or just coming close? because it will come close, thats just what happens when you lower the platform, but i've never heard of someone getting railbite on a dervish, especially with cranked down 92a bushings.

Yeah, that's why I'm confused about this...

are you actually getting bite though? it may look like you are close, but you may (and probably do) have enough clearance.

No... I just went and loosened up the kingpins until the bushings were not-squished-looking anymore, and did a little standing-still turning and pumping, and it actually looks like wheelbite happens on the dervish before rail bite (at least with the wheels i'm using, 75mm bigzigs). And yeah, it looks very very possible. I can get it to touch if I pump with my full weight standing still

standing still is nothing like when you are riding. i get wheel bite easily standing still on my dh setup and thats with less than 70mm wheels, but when im riding and sliding ive never had a problem. check when you are riding at a decent speed.

Aight - so I guess this means the dervish is supposed to feel this loose with the stock bushings & randals?? I was under the impression that 92a was pretty hard, but I guess not..
If I ever want to do any kind of DH I guess I'll have to buy some 97a barrels and big washers then..

Re: HELP!! Randal 180 truck assembly
not all urethane of similar durometers feel the same. the randals may be 92a, but they are cone shaped and different urethane than every other bushing on the market.

get some87-90a venom BARRELS. barrels will give you enough resistance so you dont over steer and wheel bite. there are pleanty of guys bigger than you who use 90a.

Anyone else run across this problem / know what to do? I'm dying to ride my dervish, this is unbearable...
I dunno what a kingdom is... But check here. Randal Skateboard Trucks - General Truck FAQ
Also, you shouldn't have to remove the entire KP to change bushings...

Sorry, but it's true.
First off, there's no way you're going to get wheelbite on a Dervish with Randals, unless your 180s are actually 150s, you've mounted the wheels backwards, or... you're not actually riding.
It's also not likely you'll get railbite while you're riding; especially since pumping a dropthrough does not involve nearly as much vertical movement. I can also tell you, you're going to slide before you carve hard enough to bottom out, unless your stance happens to be both feet in the very center of the board.
FYI; "pumping" does not mean standing on your board and bouncing up and down.
I'll throw you a bone or two; it's possible you got a set of bushings that are actually softer than 92a; apparently there was a batch from Randal recently that were considerably squishier than they were supposed to. BUT, what you're feeling now IS how turny your board is supposed to be. Those gigantic cutouts are there for a reason. You could go for some harder bushings, sure, but the amount of turn you're getting right now is a GOOD THING.
Moral of the story; keep your trucks loose, go ride. If you discover then that there are other problems, come back... but try your best to figure it out yourself first, it's worth the effort.

Any way to find out if I ended up with that batch? Cuz obviously that would affect what venom bushings I'm gunna be buying
And yeah, I've started to get used to the way-turny feel. It def. has its advantages. I'll def. want harder bushings for if I ever plan to do any kind of DH on it tho
