HELP!! Randal 180 truck assembly
So I just got my dervish with black randal 180s, and when I took out the kingdom to change the bushings and tried to put it back in I found out that this is seemingly impossible. The kingpin is held in place by a nut on the other end, but the only way to insert it is to put the bushings truck etc. on the kingpin and put it in the pivot cup then run it through the hole, but when you do that the space you are left with on the other side is not only too small to fit a skate tool in to tighten the nut on, it's too tight to even tighten the nut with your finger.
Anyone else run across this problem / know what to do? I'm dying to ride my dervish, this is unbearable...

The nut fits tightly in the space under the kingpin hole and is thus prevented from turning; just hold it in place with your finger tip while you tighten the kingpin with your skate tool.
If you can't hit bottom, wear the sides out.

Re: HELP!! Randal 180 truck assembly
flip the kingpin. use the locknut on top of the bushings, instead of in the baseplate.

What they ^^ said.
Bolthead roadside gives more clearance, but is less convenient for bushing changes and other maintenance.

Oh how tempting it is to lock this thread...but back on topic, are you serious you can't figure out how to put your trucks back together again?

Re: HELP!! Randal 180 truck assembly
Thanks for the info, guys - you answered a lot of questions I was going to ask, but I guess I don't need to now.
But actually the real problem proved to be something entirely different - I was putting the nut on the wrong way (if you don't put it on the right way its literally impossible to screw it on to the kingpin). Pretty simple solution. I feel dumb :P
But now I have a whole new problem - after putting everything together and tightening up the trucks, I took it for it's first ride. When I got back, the bushings did NOT look like they were in good shape - they were completely off center and seemed to be getting digged into by the kingpin / washer. I tried to take pictures but I'm not sure they do it justice:

You might be able to see how small the washer is (it's about the same width as the nut). I hadn't really thought anything about it when I put the board together, but now it looks like it's eating into the bushing. Is that the problem? Do I need bigger washers? Or is the answer something simple / stupid like last time?

Re: HELP!! Randal 180 truck assembly
I think you might have the bushings in wrong. If I remember correctly, Randal stock bushings are both cone-shaped with the larger bushing going on the baseplate side and both bushings installed with the big end against the hanger.
If you can't hit bottom, wear the sides out.

Re: HELP!! Randal 180 truck assembly
kingpin looks like its way to tight. randal red bushings are like 92a. you dont need your trucks that tight.
if they are this tight because the kingpin wont fit any other way, then get a new, longer kingpin.

Re: HELP!! Randal 180 truck assembly
You might try the hardware store for some 5/16" flat washers,A washer that covers a larger portion of the bushing diameter is called for.
Here is a good read.

Yeah, you remembered right - and that's exactly how I installed them. :-/

The reason I have them this tight is because otherwise the ride feels way loose (like I could turn hard enough to scrape the deck against the ground pretty easily). Or is that just how a dervish is supposed to feel?

Re: HELP!! Randal 180 truck assembly
the kingpin is tightened entirely too tight, that's all.. loosen the kingpin to where there it's barely tight enough to not be floppy.. if you want less turn, buy harder bushings
you won't need a longer kingpin for the stock bushings, that's why they are the STOCK bushings....

Re: HELP!! Randal 180 truck assembly
it shouldnt go that far. How much do you weigh? you may need a harder bushing
edit:looks like a few people beat me to it
