NEW reveiw on GROM BIZ trucks (something never disscussed)
Hello Everyone, so I understand I'm considered a "noob" or whatever here on this forum, due to the number of posts I have written. However I have been reading and watching this site for several of years. I'm also someone with some experience, in both streetluge (12 yrs) and downhill racing (8 yrs). I have attended EDI and RAIL events, however a 72mph luge accident took me out of the sport for a bit. So I do have something legitimate to contribute.
My Grom Biz Reveiw:
History -
So I used the search function and read all the reveiws on the trucks I was interested in. Although I have mainly raced on Randal DH trucks on my race boards. I wanted to use something new. I found the Grom Biz trucks and my first two thoughts where: 1) they were ugly and 2) As an engineer, I was worried about the durability of the trucks. We after finding out what they were made of, that cured my worries about strength. They still looked funny to me. After reading all the reveiws and info found here, on this truck. I was still left wondering if I should go with "the most popular truck" or the Grom Biz. My deciding factor came down to adjustability. So I ordered a pair. They got here and after reading everything I could find on them I put them on my LandyachtzDH Race.
Adjustablility -
We all know (or those of us that have searched "Grom Biz" in the "search bar") that the length of the wheel base can be changed, you can use either 2 or 4 bushings per truck, that the angle of the trucks can be adjusted on the fly. The one major point that has never been addressed in any review (to my knowledge) is that the TURN of the truck is independant of the TIGHTNESS of BUSHING (or kingpin on a normal truck). What this means is on a normal truck you loosin the truck to get more turn. On the Grom Biz you tighten the bushings to where you like them and your done! Now you can focus on how much turn you want by setting the number of degrees on the base plate (as it were). So you can have a hard carving setup with tight bushings or loose turning board without any turn! This is something you really have to try before it can be appreciated. I personally love having the "Turn" and the "Bushings" seperated. It offers me even more choices. So now on one set of trucks, YOU can choose wide wheelbase or short wheelbase, two bushings of the same duro or four bushings of different duro's, per truck. What discipline of riding do you feel like that day, and change your angle to match. I'm sorry but no other truck offers that much adjustability.
The Ride -
After getting these on my board it took a second to realize how much smooth range of motion they have. Turning left to right feels the same throughout the turn. It gets tighter as you turn like a regular truck, however it takes far longer to get to the end of the turn to get there. Even if you set your trucks to the equivilant of a pair of trucks with white Doh Ho's cranked down, you still get that range of turn, with little stearing. For anyone that has tried to adjust your foot slightly at higher speeds only to receive speed wobbles, you might appreciate this. I have green bushings, so my setup was pretty soft. Normally I would have jumped off the board with a statement of "you really ride your board like that?" instead I got used to it within a couple hours. I still want/need tighter bushings (or more of them) but it won't keep me from riding it until they arrive. By the way I use quarter inch risers and I haven't hit my edge with 75mm wheels on a DH race (however I don't carve, I hate it).
Bottom Line -
Don't be afraid of them just because you haven't ridden them, or your friends don't like them, and don't judge them on what you heard or even what you have read here. If you get a chance to ride them, by all means try them. I personally will NEVER go back to a regular truck on my longboard.
Side note:
My friends were telling me "just get some Monkeys" and "I would get some Smokeys". The funny thing is after they both rode my Grom Biz... They are switching.

Okay, I'm curious and I've been wanting to try a new truck. I was looking at seismics and originals but this is a whole new level of tech. How much do these run and where can I find them?

this is who buys these.
too bad about the 72mph crash. Must have hit your head if youre gonna DH grombiz trucks. If the pros arent doin it, neither should you.
even if your board does look cool. haha, gotta lose the Otangs if you want people to take you seriously.
A bunch of baddasss gear that is swapped, and thrashed daily.

Not in early 2010 you didn't... and not if you're doing serious dh, where many top racers still ride them. But I do agree for the majority of times you seen otangs, 'specially on a dh race.

what i got from this post:
72mph? really?
randal dh trucks? your basing this entire review on their comparison to randal dh trucks?
im not surprised you found them more leany.
the first thing you worry about when buying trucks is if they look ugly or not?
quarter inch risers? why not just use a less dropped board.
and you hate carving. wtf?
also munkae != monkey

Re: NEW reveiw on GROM BIZ trucks (something never disscussed)
There's something to the design - but unfortunately they fail so horridly it's not funny.
Basically the 'bushing seat was never actually designed to be a bushing seat - the first ones ran on tension springs.
mate of mine rode these in proto stage, had a bushing fail, and drop out...
The earth shall inherit the meek.
