Default Indy mounting holes too close

Anyone know why the mounting holes on Indy's are drilled so close to the edge of the baseplate? All the new stage 9 Indy's are drilled this way. I was going to get Indys about a week ago but decided otherwise because I'd be afraid the metal would crack if the truck got slammed hard enough. Anyone know whats up?
P.S. I stole this images from another post.

    I fear the same!!

I'm not sure why but I guess they made the truck this way to get them lighter!!

i'm rockin' a couple sets from the early 90's & they're still holding up the abuse. moreso in the 80's, i've not destroyed any baseplates - just the kingpin.

    Default hey, nice pics...

Destructos have the new-school pattern centered on the baseplate, thus avoiding the problem.

I'm riding WWWAAAYYY more Destructos than Indys these days. I've got 3 full sets of Destructos and only one single Indy.

Destructo Highs are taller too, and they turn just as nice if not better than Indy.

    agreed on the destructo's...

but ... Indy's do tend to hang tough.. never had a problem with them relating to the location of the holes.....
    it's an imaginary problem ....
skate em if you got em
keep your hardware snug and there wont be ANY problem

    Default imagined problems

Imagined problems can be some of the worst ones! Like the big scary monster in your closet when you were a kid, that was a big problem! The fact that it was imaginary only made others scoff at your problem, but it was one that had to be solved somehow! Getting over the fear was a solution to the problem.....

I don't know if that philisophical rant applies here, but I HAVE seen pictures of baseplates that were cracked or broken near the mounting holes, with a piece of the baseplate missing so that it really isn't a hole anymore. It's not anything I've ever done personally, but if you ride hard enough and do enough disasters then maybe it could be a problem. I bet you'd break hardware before you broke the baseplate though.

I was just noting the fact that Destructos don't have that "imaginary" problem.

oh i know where you're coming from

I know they are possible to break ... and have broken; but they are generally been pretty robust trucks and are definitely not fragile.... i'm certainly not saying they are necessarily the strongest trucks out there; but I guess that if you are doing the kind of stuff that would cause that type of failure -- you are used to breaking stuff.... or If you haven't had problems snapping other baseplates (Tracker Ultralites excluded-- god the 1st gen ones were JUNK!!!!) then you don't really have anything to worry about with indy's...

..ahh kinda reminds back in the 70's when Bennett trucks had resin base plates. They would get all torked and warped and we would replace them with Trackers until they corrected the problem. Nothing like riding hard and then one day you noticed only 2 screws holding the trucks in place.
The 70's, back when the women were warm and the bong water cold. Back when the women wanted to s@uck your balls instead of breakin' them. The 70's..when I still had hair and my belly did NOT hang over my belt buckle...

the Destructo High's have a lot more grind clearance (stock) than Indy's do ... that's always a plus....
thbe High 6.5's have been some of my faves for a couple years now... glad to see some other people starting to ride them...

I've been experimenting with different (conventional) trucks lately, and in my experience, nothing compares with the Destructo High's and the wider Cores. Seriously, as far as conventiona-type trucks go, these out-perform everything else. The added benefit is that changing the kingpin is trivial, so you can run taller (top) bushings, and still have good grind clearance (the D's have loads of clearance).

Does Destructo make trucks that come in 8.5" axle?

    Yeah, what he said.

Also look at the Core 6.0's and 7.0's. I've got the latter on my park board, and actually had to de-wedge the rear truck. Swap out the kingpins, throw on some blue Stim's, and you're still saving money over the "name" brands.
